The Hueytown National Guard was organized on December 5, 1892. The first unit to be raised in Hueytown was the 1st Cavalry Regiment. The guard continued to grow and by 1912 it had become the 8th Infantry Regiment. In 1916, the guard became the 4th Infantry Regiment and in 1921, it became the 3rd Infantry Regiment. On November 25th, 1938, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed an act that created the National Guard of Alabama as a state militia organization with headquarters in Birmingham. The 2nd Battalion, Alabama National Guard was federally recognized on January 17th of 1941 and became part of the 7th Army Corps under Lieutenant General James K. Johnson who served as commander of United States Forces in Europe during World War II. After World War II ended in 1945, the battalion returned home and on October 9th 1946 it re-organized as a rifle company (2/1/47 - present). In 1957 there were only three companies left within our battalion so we reorganized into two ranger companies (2&3) which remain today within our battalion structure at all times! Our current colonel is Colonel Rick Ladd who has been with us since 1992! He is amazing!

The Hueytown National Guard was organized on September 30, 1935. It was the first militia unit in Alabama. The guard was made up of National Guardsmen from other states who were called to serve in response to the Spanish-American War. The guard became involved in many skirmishes and engagements during World War II.
Hueytown, Alabama is a small town in Escambia County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,906 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pensacola–St. Augustine metropolitan area. Hueytown is located on US Highway 96 just south of the Florida Panhandle and north of Stantonsburg. The town was founded by African Americans in 1881 as "Johnsville." It was named after General Andrew Johnson, who became president in 1865 and then served as governor of Alabama from 1871 to 1875. In 1905, it became known as "Hueytown" after Representative William Halsey Huey (1857-1920), an American Democrat from Georgia who represented Mobile County in the U.S House of Representatives from 1917 to 1921 and 1923 to 1925. The original white residents were farmers who took up farming when they heard about the new black community established in nearby Johnstown by white people looking for a place to raise cotton crops. By 1910, there were only a few hundred whites living in Hueytown while over 1,000 blacks lived there permanently or for short periods of time because they were either free or had been born into slavery in Mississippi or other areas east of the Gulf Coast before being brought Westward to what is now Escambia County by slave traders and eventually bought by Anglo-Americans such as those based at Pensacola Beach on Florida's panhandle during the late 19th century. In 1915 prominent local lawyer J C Pritchett organized a meeting at which he proposed that all white citizens move out of their homes so that black citizens could live together without fear of violence or discrimination; this event helped spur development within the community towards becoming one integrated entity with both races living side-by-side peacefully until 1964 when racial tension increased following protests against desegregation efforts throughout much of America led by civil rights leaders like Dr Martin Luther King Jr.. With no protection available from state or federal law providing equal housing opportunities for all Americans regardless race (and especially for African Americans) many blacks found themselves priced out of opportunity and unable to return home after moving away for generations; this forced migration continues today although recent arrivals have begun integrating into local society slowly but surely through education and cultural experiences rather than through integrationist measures such as busing students from predominately black schools into integrated neighborhoods near their homes). Today Hueytown remains an isolate corner on a rural peninsula sandwiched between Mobile Bayou to its northwest and Pensacola Bayou to its southeast; nevertheless it retains some character due largely to its close proximity to Interstate 65 which provides access not only mainline shopping centers but also dining options including several high end restaurants along with various types Of Sheetrock Home Hardware stores providing basic needs such as plumbing supplies; most importantly healthcare services are easily accessible with plans offered through doctors offices/ clinics right next door making it easy for everyone within minutes' walk regardless race or social status In 2014 new medical buildings opened up just outside town limits bringing better care closer by: HueyTown has always been home base for many locals active in music - beginning back when blues legend Robert Johnson headlined two shows here during his early years performing 'Bluebonnet Junction' at old Municipal Stadium across Street from current day High School...(Johnson would come back again less than 2 years later & headline another show here!)& subsequent acts like Willie Dixon (& Tedschi Trucks Band)Tommy Roe ('Rattlesnake')and others continue playing here year round even though studio space has recently become available downtown...As well as plenty more shows & events taking place outdoors all summer long!

In 1776, President George Washington ordered the formation of a national guard to help protect America's freedom. The first national guard units were created in 1781 and served until 1800. The modern national guard was founded on November 15, 1908 when an act of Congress authorized the creation of general service troops throughout the United States with no specific purpose or mission. By 1920, there were more than 5 million members in the National Guard in 21 states plus the District of Columbia. From its humble beginnings as an auxiliary force in times of peace to its current role as one of the nation's premier military forces, the National Guard has played an important role in American history. Today, there are over 330 units statewide and within federal agencies across 36 U.S. states and Puerto Rico. Nationwide, national guard troops deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OI), Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), and Operation New Dawn have accounted for numerous deployments including more than 2,500 combat missions since 2001 alone. As we enter into 2013, it is clear that America's military tradition is alive and well--theNational Guard will continue to play an important role in our defense system both at home and abroad
