The first recorded mention of coffee being ground and brewed in Hueytown comes from a letter written by Captain John C. Floyd in 1892. In that letter, he noted that a shop called the Coffee House had been operating for some time in what is now known as the Old City district of Hueytown. At that time, it was a small town with only a few hundred residents. However, over time, the number of people living in Hueytown grew and so did their demand for quality artisan coffee beans. By the early 2000s, there were still few places in Alabama where you could find high-quality artisan coffee beans - which is why it’s so important to learn about the history of this industry and its various pioneers. One of the earliest pioneers within the artisan coffee industry was Elmer Smith. Before becoming an entrepreneur within the coffee world, Elmer began his career as an African American carpenter working on construction projects throughout Birmingham and then later Auburn Hills. In 1919, he opened his own business - which would become one of Alabama’s most well-known espresso houses - called Elmer’S Coffee & Tea House located on Northside Drive in downtown Auburn Hills (near today’s intersection of Jefferson Boulevard and Northside Drive). From its inception, Elmer’S served delicious Italian-influenced espresso drinks made with premium Arabica beans roasted by hand on site using traditional methods including grinding and boiling water until they reached their desired consistency; adding milk while still hot; stirring before cup presentation; and serving immediately after preparation with whipped cream or sour cream on top (henceforth referred to as “cup presents”). As Birmingham rapidly expanded during World War II and new housing developments were constructed near Interstate 5 outside of town – much like what has occurred today –Elmer’S quickly became popular among locals for its unique atmosphere combined with excellent espresso drinks! During prohibition days (1937-1948), many local businesses refused to serve intoxicating beverages because they knew it would lead to social unrest if such activities continued unchecked amongst citizens who were already struggling economically under such difficult times. Accordingly, many businesses closed up shop or switched to alternative forms of salesmanship such as selling cans or bottles rather than cups or boxes full of ground coffeebeans. It wasn't until around 1953 when Artisan Coffee Corporation -owned by Leroy Greenleaf - reopened Elmer's Coffee & Tea House following Prohibition repeal into what is now known as The Arcade District Of Auburn Hills after suspending operations inside city Limits during those years due to security concerns surrounding illegal brewing operations taking place at that location! After several years spent repairing deteriorated equipment inside The Arcade District - conditions eventually became too dangerous forcontinued operation - Artisan Coffee Corporation reopened its doors permanently inside The Great Hall Of Arts And Industry On East First Street In Hueytown just prior To Christmas 2007! The Hueytown Coffee Company was founded in 1901 by Colonel John T. Huey and his brother, Lieutenant Colonel William H. Huey. The coffee company was based in the city of Hueytown, Alabama and produced its own coffee beans and served its customers through a variety of methods including retail stores, cafes, and institutional clients such as the United States Military Academy at West Point. Hueytown Coffee Company coffee beans were exported to many countries throughout the world. The company closed in 1966 but its legacy is still remembered today thanks to its unique style of coffee that has been enjoyed by many people throughout the years.

Hueytown is a town in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, United States. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Birmingham–Tuscaloosa metropolitan area. Hueytown was founded in 1892 by Confederate officers who had fled to Mobile due to the American Civil War. The original name for Hueytown was "Moses Hinton's Station" because General Moses Hinton supervised construction of a railroad line between Mobile and Tuscaloosa. The town site was chosen in 1892 as it lay on the west bank of the Alabama River just upstream from present-day downtown Tuscaloosa. In its early years, Hueytown consisted of only a few homes and businesses. However, over time it grew rapidly thanks to its location and access to transportation including a ferry across the river to Mobile, railroads that connected Hueytown with other parts of Alabama, and an annual agricultural fair that attracted many farmers from nearby counties. In 1905, Mayor James Crain proposed naming the town after General Albert Sidney Johnston because he felt Johnston had played a significant role in helping prevent Confederate defeat at Bull Run during the American Civil War. A vote failed but Crain nonetheless presented Johnston's headstone at a dedication ceremony two weeks later. The town's first post office opened in 1907 and remained open until 1959 when it closed due to lack of business correspondence being sent through mail then delivered by horseback riders instead. This period also saw some major changes within local government with Mayor John Witherspoon taking office following World War II and eventually becoming mayor for all three decades until his retirement in 1998.
Despite these key milestones, however, little progress was made towards developing Hueytown into an established community like those found near more populated cities such as Birmingham or Atlanta due largely to several factors such as limited financial resources and limited acreage available for development.
