The Hartselle Navy Deployed Gift History begins in 1937 when the town of Hartselle, Alabama was founded by a group of military veterans. The community soon became known for its production of unique and beautiful gift items for military service members and their families. In 1943, the United States Naval Station at nearby Jacksonville opened up and the need for gift storage increased. The first naval station gift store was built on the base and it was known as "Navy Station GIFTS." over time, other naval stations were added to the network, making Hartselle one of the foremost Naval Station Gift Store destinations in the country. In 1961, Hartselle's municipal government merged with that of neighboring Cullman County to form a new municipality called Cullman County Government. Hartselle is a small town in Alabama, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Marshall County. Hartselle was settled by German immigrants in the late 1800s and became an agricultural center. The town's name comes from Ralph Hartselle, who donated land for a courthouse and school in 1892. The first post office in Hartselle opened in 1903. The community had one store until 1914 when it closed because of World War I economic sanctions against Germany. After the war, Hartselle grew rapidly with construction of a railroad line and other infrastructure projects. In the early 21st century, Hartselle experienced several slowdowns due to its location within Dixie National Forest and lack of industry or transportation options. However, recent growth has resumed with new businesses opening up and more people moving into the town. Hartselle is located on U.S Route 231 north-northwest of Montgomery and south-southwest of Birmingham

Hartselle is a city in Escambia County, Alabama, United States. The population was 2,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Mobile–Airmen-Biloxi, AL Metropolitan Statistical Area. The history of Hartselle dates back to 1881 when the land was donated by Honorable John A. Hartselle and his wife Jane to the town of Mobile. In 1892, a post office was established in Hartselle and remained in operation until it closed on September 15, 1902. The first school in Hartselle opened in 1898 and served grades one through four. In 1907, a fire destroyed most of the town center and began reconstruction which included building a new courthouse and jail which were completed in 1909. In 1913 an act authorizing the erection of a public library was passed by the state legislature and construction began on what would become known as "The Great Library" (later renamed "The Alabama State Library"). On July 1, 1915, it was dedicated with President Wilson present as keynote speaker. The library has been continuously open since that time with more than 18 million items being added to its collection during its tenure including books from all 50 states as well as over 100 foreign countries Hartselle's economy has changed many times over its history but always revolves around agriculture or trade related businesses such as sawmills/logging; trucking; manufacturing; seafood processing; rice farmers; hog farmers; cattle ranchers etc., making it an important agricultural community for decades past
Hartselle was founded in 1823 by James A. Hartselle and his wife, Nancy. The town was named for General Lafayette, who had been Commander-in-chief of the United States Army at the time of its founding. The population of Hartselle reached 1,500 in 1830. In 1835, Hartselle became a county seat and grew rapidly as a cotton plantation center. By 1880, the population had doubled to 5,000 and the city had become an important commercial center with several thousand residents. In 1902, after years of growth in Alabama's white collar workforce thanks to new machine plants opened in nearby Muscle Shoals and Birmingham, Hartselle experienced a rapid decline as its economy shifted from agriculture to manufacturing. As production moved out of town and away from jobs that were available to African Americans, crime increased; by 1916 it had reached levels not seen since the turn of the century. With declining economic conditions came social unrest which eventually led to a civil war between black militants and white settlers over control of local government facilities and resources. After more than two centuries of continuous development within Alabama's biggest city (and one-time slave market), Hartselle finally fell victim to decay and neglect in the late 20th century before experiencing significant revival during the 21st century
