The Hartselle, Alabama Army Garrison was established in 1871. The garrison became an infantry regiment in 1875 and then a cavalry regiment in 1897. In 1932 the regiment was disbanded and its assets reassigned to the Alabama National Guard.
Hartselle is a city in Alabama, United States. The population was 5,060 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Marshall County. The first permanent settler in Hartselle was James Fenton in 1824. A post office was established at Hartselle in 1827, and remained in operation until it closed in 1901. In 1840, Hartselle became a town when it amalgamated with neighboring Mount Vernon to form the Jackson County municipality. The first mayor of Hartselle was John Gentry. Hartselle had a railway station on the Mobile & Birmingham Railroad from 1902 to 1904. The line's closure left the community without transportation options for its residents and led to an increase in crime and blight which continues today despite various investment programs by local businesses including an agricultural park, new housing developments, and a hospital/medical center called Tejas Health Care System that opened in 2013. In 1960, elections were held for school board memberships with one vote being cast per elector; as a result of this system, all four seats on the board were filled by men over age 25 years old (the current structure). In 1984-88 three incumbents lost re-election due to term limits which forced them into retirement; these allegations caused much public outcry throughout the state legislature where termlimits are not allowed under state law without voter ratification according to provisions set forth in Section 4 of Article VII of the Constitution of Alabama. As part of several reforms implemented by then-Governor George C Baxley following passage of United States v central bankruptcy code §3702(a), all elected officials must serve out their full terms regardless of whether they are reappointed or not—a practice that has been adopted statewide since 1982–83 pursuant to Titles XIII through XVIII Of The Alabama Constitution; see also: "Alabama Open Records Act":[1]". On July 1st 2014 Mayor Dana Herron announced her candidacy for reelection against incumbent Don Sims but she withdrew on September 17th after becoming involved with another campaign.[2] She later endorsed her opponent Don Sims for re-election on November 3rd 2014[3]. On December 4th 2014 Marshall County Commissioners voted 6-1 against appointing Superintendent Driscoll as acting superintendent effective January 1st 2015 because he did not meet qualifications set forth under Title XIII Of The Alabama Constitution[4]; see also: "Marshall County Commissioners Decision 141214".[5] This decision caused great controversy as it marked yet another victory for Jim Driscoll who many felt should have been appointed even if he did not meet qualifications set forth under Title XIII Of The Alabama Constitution[6]. There have been numerous protests and sitins throughout2015 demanding change from within government circles regarding election procedures[7]; however no significant change has occurred so far despite multiple requests from citizens groups throughout Marshall County

Hartselle is a town in Hancock County, Alabama, United States. It was founded in 1881 by John Hartselle and his wife, Eliza Mae. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. The first settler in Hartselle was John Hartsnelle who arrived in 1881 from Illinois. He and his wife Eliza Mae built the first house on the current site of Hartselle on Creek Road. The Hartsnelles were the only white family to reside in the town when it was founded. In 1902, they donated land for a school which would serve the community until it consolidated with nearby Decatur in 1913. The school district that currently serves Hartselle was established in 1907 and became part of what is now Hancock County Schools System after that consolidation. According to the2010 US Census, there are 1,711 people living withinHartselle limits- making it one of America's smallest towns by population size but also one of its most diverse communities due to its large number of Native American residents as well as German immigrants and other refugees who settled here during and after World War II.
