The Fort Payne Police Department has been a part of the community for many years. The department was founded in 1909 and originally consisted of five officers. In 1924, the department was renamed the Fort Payne Police Department and two additional officers were added. The department currently has a total of fifteen officers. The departments first gift was an old World War I era machine gun. In 1961, the department received a new police car. In 1971, the department received a motorcycle patrol unit. In 1984, the Fort Payne Police Department received its first electronic policing system which allowed officer to communicate with dispatch from their personal computers. In 1992, the Fort Payne Police Department received its first body camera system which allowed officers to film their encounters with citizens without having to take any notes or videos. In 2006, the Fort Payne Police Department received its second body camera system which allowed officers to film their encounters with citizens without having to take any notes or videos. This addition made it easier for officers to prevent crime in our community and keep our residents safe.

Fort Payne is a small town located in the Alabama Hills of central Alabama. The post was established in 1814 as a military outpost and later became an important center for cotton production. Fort Payne is now a tourist attraction and popular destination for visitors from across the United States and from around the world. The first settlers in what is now Fort Payne were Creek Indians who arrived in 1805. In 1814, General Andrew Jackson moved his army southward to Mobile Bay and ordered Lieutenant Colonel James Fenton to establish a military post at Fort Payne on the banks of the Coosa River. The location offered ample timber resources, making it an ideal spot for fortification and defense against possible Indian attacks. After Fenton's death in 1815, Major John Troup took over command of the post. In 1819, General Robert E Lee marched his army through central Alabama to attack Jackson's forces at Mobile Bay. Although successful in routing Jackson's force, Lee was forced to retreat after suffering significant losses. With no major army left standing in Alabama, Confederate General Braxton Bragg decided to launch his own offensive against Union forces at Fort Pillow on December 13th 1861. Brady's force numbered about 25,000 men but failed to take advantage of superior Union artillery fire which Resulted in heavy casualties on both sides combined! On January 10th 1862 Brigadier General Benjamin Butler relieved Brady and issued orders ordering all soldiers not immediately evacuated their camps within one mile (1 km) of any other establishment without first receiving written notice thereof; this order was known as "The Butler Order". Due to these events, Fort Pillow remained unoccupied until April 12th when Confederate troops recaptured it from Union forces under Brigadier General Garnett Johnson following several days of intense fighting! Once again patriotic Americans had shown themselves worthy adversaries by taking back their country’s capital city! Fort Pillow continued its role as a strategic outpost until 1865 when it was abandoned due to lack of supplies and subsequent damage caused by American Sherman’s campaigns during that year’s Civil War! After the war ended, Ft Payne slowly began emerging as an agricultural community with cotton production being its mainstay until World War II brought about changes that impacted much more than just agriculture; munitions manufacturing also played an important role during that time period too! During World War II many residents relocated northward towards Montgomery because they knew that wartime rationing would only last so long before things came back into line again- thankfully those fears were unfounded! Unfortunately however even postwar Montgomery experienced some problems such as racial tension which led eventually to riots throughout 1955-1957 known as “the Birmingham Race Riot” !! For years afterwards residents have been working hard various businesses including restaurants, casinos & hotels have sprung up all around town providing additional employment opportunities while also keeping things lively!! currently there are plans underway for another park/town square dubbed “Majestic Square” which will include features like a baseball diamond/softball field/basketball courts etc., this should further increase tourism arrivals & promoteFort Payne even more

Fort Payne was founded in 1814 as a post on an ancient Indian trading route by General Andrew Jackson and his army during the Mexican-American War. In 1819, it became a military arsenal when General James K. Polk built a fort here to defend Mobile Bay fromSpanish forces. In 1832, Fort Payne became the seat of Marshall County after being moved from its original location on Mount Pleasant in Livingston County. The first settler in Fort Payne was John Wilkinson who arrived in 1799 and founded Wilkinson's Station on what is now US 59 south of present-day Fort Payne. Wilkinson's home still stands today and is used as a museum. Another early settler in the area was Mr. Coffee who came toMobile Valley in 1800 with his family and started up what is now known as Coffee Road south of present day Fort Payne Depot along modern day US Hwy 259/Alabam Ave./Coffee Rd., also known as Old Coffee Road today because he share this road with several other pioneer families that lived there for many years before moving away or selling their land back to their heirs or successors over time including Mrs Temperance Coolidge who resided there for many years until her death in 1924). In 1819, General James K Polk built a fort at Fort Payne to protect Mobile Bay from Spanish forces during the Mexican-American War under President George Washington’s command. The fort served as an artillery depot until it closed down following the war due to financial difficulties. In 1832, Marshall County was created out of portions of Livingston and Montgomery Counties when those counties were combined into one unit following Reconstruction after the American Civil War ended. The new county courthouse located at what is now US 59/Alabam Ave./Coffee Rd., also known as Old Courthouse Square today housed most of court business while Perrysburg Barracks served as jail and prison until it closed down around 1840 according to local historian Drifter Daniels which would explain why very few contemporaneous records remain documenting court proceedings during that time period within that specific square mile area just east of present day Ft Payne Avenue off Highway 259/Alabam Ave./Coffee Rd., so much so that even current courthouse signage does not reflect this important fact! In 1901, Coca Cola began production at what is now Coca Cola Field near where they currently operate Today’s Business Park off I-565 northbound exit ramp heading east towards Decatur (just past mile marker 231) – making it one of only two places worldwide where Coca Cola has ever been produced! A number of industries have filled various roles within our community over time including healthcare (including Baptist Health & Medical Center), manufacturing (including Ford Motor Company), educational institutions such as Spring Hill High School & Middle School which offers undergraduate college courses leading up to UL&M University degrees; professional sports teams such as the Birmingham Black Bears baseball team; governmental bodies like Marshfield District Court; numerous restaurants including Taco Bell - all clustered around Marketplace Boulevard NE corner FM 516 /Old Market Place NE corner I-565; high school students taking classes inside Mountain View Elementary School located just southeast of Marketplace Boulevard NE corner FM 516 between Old Market Place NE corner Alabam Ave./Coffee Rd., making Mtn View one stoplight away from almost any typeOf activity happening right outside your door!
Fort Payne was founded in 1796 as a small fort on the Alabama River. The fort served as astrategic base for the military during the Indian War and was also used to store supplies and reinforcements. The fort was abandoned in 1814 and has beenESCO listed twice.
