The history of the Foley Rifle and Pistol Club is rich with stories of individuals who have wielded these firearms in self-defense or warfare. In 1892, two riflemen from Foley joined forces with local farmers to form the first rifle and pistol club in Alabama. The purpose of this group was to shoot together for sport and shared concerns about weapons safety. It was not until 1907 that a formal organization was founded, which became known as the Foley Rifle and Pistol Club. The club continued to meet monthly until 1925 when it disbanded due to lack of interest. During World War II, many members served in the military or were drafted into service. Additionally, there were more women shooters joining the club during this time period than ever before. In 1945, after years of planning and discussion, the Foley Rifle and Pistol Club finally metamorphosed into its current incarnation – The Foley Gun & KnifeClub! As we enter an era where firearm ownership is becoming more normalized, it is important that we remember those who have dedicated their lives to shooting enthusiasts like ourselves – those who have made our community better through their love of guns!
