Foley is a town in Randolph County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,924 at the 2010 census. Foley is located on the Cahaba River and has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen climate classification Cfa). The town of Foley was founded in 1836 by General James W. Foley and his wife Ann. The first post office in town was established in 1837. In 1840, General John A. Hill built a dam across the Cahaba River to provide power for his mills. In 1865, General William Troup's army halted at Foley while they crossed the river en route to battle with Confederate forces near Chattanooga. The town grew rapidly during Reconstruction; by 1870 it had 5 stores, 12 banks, and 100 residents. By 1930 it had 20 stores, 50 banks, and 1,000 residents. In 1951-1952 there were three Tornadoes that touched down near Foley including one that caused $1 million worth of damage to homes and businesses downtown which included $100 000 for damage done to General JW Fowlkes home just outside of town limits

Foley is a small town in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,746 at the 2010 census. Foley was founded by John A. Foley in 1836 and named for him. It became an incorporated village in 1907. Foley is located at 37°59'39"N 88°14'27"W (37.911816 N 88.201878 W). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,853 people, 781 households, and 592 families residing in the town. The population density was 971.0 people per square mile (382.8/km²). There were 835 housing units at an average density of 419.6 per square mile (155.3/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98% White and 2% African American; 0% Native American; 0% Asian; 0% from other races; and 2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3%. There are seven churches in Foley: First Baptist Church (); Methodist church (); Presbyterian church (); Episcopal church (); Baptist church (); and Methodist Zion Church (). As of 2009 there are still active congregations located within Foley that have not moved away - First Baptist Church (), Methodist Zion Church (), Presbyterian worship services continue every Saturday morning (@ 10am), Episcopal service on Tuesdays @ 11am starts @ 4pm & Seventh-day Adventist services on Sundays @ 6pm
Foley was founded by General James Foley in 1839. The town quickly became a center for cotton smuggling and Reconstruction-era corruption, hosting both the Confederate and Union armies during the Civil War. In 1863, Foley's post office was destroyed by Union troops under General Robert E. Lee, but the town continued to serve as an important transportation hub until it was abandoned in 1885. In the 1930s, Foley experienced rapid growth as a result of its status as an agricultural center; however, this prosperity gradually faded over time due to dwindling resources and increased competition from other towns in Alabama. The town officially ceased to exist on July 1, 1985, when it was merged with nearby Decatur into the larger city of Montgomery.
