The United States Air Force (USAF) is the aerial warfare branch of the United States Armed Forces. It has been in operation since 1947, and is one of the two service branches to have a permanent military presence in every state of America. The USAF operates more than 100 bases worldwide, including 12 in Alabama. The USAF was founded on June 17, 1947 as the Strategic Air Command (SAC), successor to World War II's Army Air Forces. SAC was equipped with bombers and fighters capable of strategic bombardment of enemy targets within Japan and Europe. Foley is a small town in Alabama, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2000 census. Foley is located in Shelby County. The area that now Foley was first settled by whites in 1827. In 1892, the post office here was established as part of the Stroudsburg–Foley Railroad Company. By 1910, the population had grown to 995 and by 1920 it had reached 1,000. The townspeople were forced out of their homes during the Great Birmingham Race Riot of 1921 and all but 350 residents left for good within two years. A new community began to form around Route 21 about a mile east of Foley's original location in 1922 when farmers near present-day Ensley developed a cotton gin and other land holdings thereabouts on which they raised corn, hay and other crops until World War II when the war interrupted production and many nearby businesses closed down due to wartime rationing. After the war ended, many people returned to live in Foley including some who had stayed away duringthe race riot; these newcomers made up most of what are today's residents. In 1959, an adjoining unincorporated community called West Point (later renamed Ensley) was formed from portions of both Foley and West Point after its development as an agricultural center following Decatur County's annexation into Montgomery County (Alabama). As commercial activity increased along US 21 in Ensley – so too did residential development around US 421 north of West Point; this trend continued until 2001 when a large shopping mall project called "The Mall at Foley" resulted in much demolition activity throughout rural parts of town which ultimately led to its abandonment four years later with no plans for redevelopment or reopening since then despite occasional discussions among local officials about reviving it given its potential for economic revitalization including hosting conventions or sporting events outside city limits

Foley is a small town located in Clarke County, Alabama, United States. The population was 2,856 at the 2010 census. It has been said that Foley is named after an Indian chief and trader who moved to the area in the 1830s. The first post office in Foley was established in 1836. The town was chartered in 1868, and it became a municipality in 1978. Foley is currently considered part of the Birmingham metropolitan area. The town began as a small rural community located near what is now Enterprise Airport on Creek Road about one mile west of present-day Foley Boulevard. A few pioneers built homes there during the late 1800s and early 1900s; some later returned to live there after moving away from their original towns or counties because they felt more comfortable within their new home. One account reports that James Fenton platted what would become Foley on land he purchased from Chief Bengee nearpresent-day Enterprise Airport on Decatur Road in 1836 while still living with his family at Muskogee Trail Agency east of present-day Enterprise Airport. In 1868, when Montgomery County was created from parts of Clarke and Jefferson Counties, Foley became one of its first municipalities; it borders Montgomeryshire to the south and north, with Catoosa County (later Rogersville) lying to the east and west across Creek Road/Boulevard/Enderly Drive today’s alleyway between Red Mountain Rd./Upper Industrial Way [now US 31] NE & FM 527 SW formerly known as White Sands Dr.; this name change followed continued growth over time as numerous businesses opened up throughout downtown including several grocery stores & post office annexes along with three movie theaters starting around World War II until current day development patterns have completely eliminated most if not all retail space along both sides of approximately 1 block wide alley extending all the way back past upper industrialwy just off Lower Industrial Way today’s alleyway between Upper Industrial Way [now US 31] NE & FM 527 SW formerly known as White Sands Dr., which includes many large single family dwellings also residential properties surrounding commercial areas – Old Business District circa 1860 remained mucho unchanged thru later years
