Florence, Alabama is a small town located in the Shoals area of south-central Alabama. The population was 5,000 at the 2010 census. In 1861, Florence became part of the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War. As a result, many Confederate flags were flown in and around Florence from 1861 to 1865. The city's first military installation was Fort Pickens on land owned by General Robert E. Lee. The fort was typical of Confederate garrisons: It had eight cannons, ten infantry companies and two cavalry units with field artillery and mortars. On July 11, 1861, General Albert Sidney Johnston arrived in Florence with 1,200 men to take control of Fort Pickens and its guns. On October 8thFort Pickens surrendered to Union forces under General Ulysses S. Grant near what is now known as downtown Florence after a three-day battle that resulted in over 100 dead and wounded soldiers on both sides After the war ended, most of the original fortifications were dismantled or sold for scrap metal However one turret still stands today as part of the University of Alabama's Student Life Building complex on Beale Street near downtown Florence In 1865 when Confederate General John C Hood attempted an escape from Montgomery by train he took his own life by jumping out a window onto Interstate 65 near Cullman rather than surrender . A plaque funded by local residents marks this event . Many people believe that if John C Hood had been captured alive he may have given himself up rather than suicide

Florence, Alabama is a small town located in the Black Belt of Alabama. The population was 5,876 at the 2000 census. At this time in 2009, Florence had an estimated population of 6,158. The city is named after the Italian city of Florence which was founded by the Genovese family in 1529. The first post office in Florence was established on December 7th, 1868. The current post office building was built in 1935 and has been used as a library since 1954. In addition to its local government functions, Florence also houses the Birmingham-Jefferson County Library system and several smaller libraries throughout the city. Novelty gas stations are common in rural areas such as Florence due to their low fuel prices and limited competition from other stores within driving distance (although there are now more gas stations than ever near downtown). Gasoline prices have slowly increased over recent years making these stations less valuable investments for businesses but they remain popular tourist attractions for locals and visitors alike.

This gave soldiers and Marines an idea of what was available in the Navy stores during different holidays. In 1978-79, the Naval Stores Program was established which offered unique discounts on naval supplies for members of Sailors' Families Clubs (SFCs). This program continued until 1987 when it was replaced by Marine Corps/Navy Combined Statistical Unit (CSU) gifts programs which are still used today.. In 2001-2002, there was a limited edition NAVY SEAL sledgehammer gift set offered exclusively to members of SFCs at participating NNEA suppliers.. Beginning in 2003-2004 Csu gifts were also made available through corporate warehouses throughout America.. In 2006-2007 an exclusive NAVY SEAL sniper rifle gifted set was released through select supplier(s). Along with these special offers came customization options for each product through NEA club shops.. Over time more and more products have been added to Csu gifts but some remain exclusive to NEA membership only programs like the "Navy SEAL Sniper Rifle" Gift Set released in 2006-2007 only thru selected suppliers-.
