The Coffee House was an important stop for people walking to work or going shopping in Florence. They also served as a meeting place for the townspeople. In 1945, Mrs. Dillard passed away and her husband took over running the shop until his death in 1970. After Mrs. Dillard's death, the Shop became known as simply "The Coffee House." The first espresso machine was made at The Coffee House by Luigi De Marchi in 1958- this machine is still used today and is considered one of their signature machines. In 1984, Driggs Bros., a local grocery store chain bought The CoffeeHouse and renamed it "Driggs' Grille". Driggs' Grille served Italian-American cuisine until 1997 when they closed down due to financial troubles but reopened under new ownership two years later with a more mainstream menu which included items from around Florence including pizza ovens that could be heated up to make pizzas quickly! After being closed for many years, Driggs' Grille finally went out of business again in 2016 but plans are underway to reopen soon! Today, The CoffeeHouse remains one of Florence's most popular coffee shops with visitors coming from all over to enjoy their delicious Ethiopian beans roasted fresh each day!
