In 1918–19,Fairhopers voted to leaveMarshall County for newly formed Tuscaloosa County; but they re-established themselves as a separate municipality on December 1st following a referendum passed by all residents in that time period. In 1930–31, Fairhopers voted to annex portions of Tuscaloosa County including what is now Dearborn Park; but this annexation did not take place due to opposition from local White Citizens' Council members who felt that their cores should stay within their own communities instead of being taken over by newcomers without any consent from those living inside those boundaries! In 1937–38 premiums for property taxes increased 8%. However this increase was short-lived as voter turnout against annexation declined rapidly throughout 1938 amidst economic recession across much Alabama at that time….During World War II many jobs were available in defense plants within miles radius such as Goodyear Tire Plant & Rubber Company which manufactured rubber tires during wartime…..When war ended there were no jobs Available so people returned home….. After war ended there wasn't much demand for tire production so some plants closed down….. As result most businesses closed down except two grocery store chains which reopened after years off……..One reason why these stores reopened was because they didn't have anything else close by that could compete with them….. These two companies are still open today called Kroger Supermarkets Incorporated (KRO)and Safeway Markets Incorporated (Safeway).
