Fairfield, Alabama is a small city in the county of Baldwin, within the Alabama state capital Montgomery. The population was 5,614 at the 2010 census. Fairfield is home to two coffee companies that have been around since 1886: Peet's Coffee and Café and First National Bank of Fairfield. In 1885, John Peet founded Peet's Coffee company in what is now Fairfield. His first beans were roasted on a family farm near his home. In 1886, First National Bank of Fairfield opened its doors in what is now downtown Fairfield. There are several stories about how this business began - one says that First National Bank founder George Hargrave went into a local grocery store and saw an advertisement for a coffee shop called The Java House which had just opened up in town. This triggered an entrepreneurial moment for Hargrave as he decided to open his own coffee shop. He ordered all the coffee beans needed to make his first batch of coffee from nearby roasters and started selling coffee from his shop- beginning what would become one of the largest caffeine businesses in America!

The first settlers in what is now Fairfield were Indians who migrated from Illinois in 1814. By 1826, four white men had bought land in what is now Fairfield and started to build a cabin; they named their new town after Colonel Nathaniel Bogan, one of their founders. The first post office was established in 1827 and mail was carried to Fort Gibson from here until 1834 when it was transferred to Mobile. In 1840, two brothers - John Witherspoon and James Hogg - founded Witherspoon & Hogg dyeing company onMobile Bayou which became one of America's leading textile companies during the antebellum period. They also operated a bakery which continued into the 20th century.. In 1850, three African Americans - Andrew Henderson, Moses Grimes and Solomon Wells - bought 2/3 of an acre (0.93 km²) lot near present day downtown Fairfield for $10 each from Isaac Ogden Barker Sr., owner of Ogden Shoes Company on Mobile Bayou north of downtown Mobile.. These early pioneers had difficulty getting clear title to their land because it lay within Indian Territory at that time.. Henderson later served as Mayor of Mobile from 1865-1868 while living on Green Street in Fairfield where he raised his family with his wife Josephine Butler Henderson until her death in 1915; she are buried there with him.. Fairfield is a small town in Montgomery County, Alabama, United States. The population was 905 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Huntsville-Decatur, AL Metropolitan Statistical Area. Fairfield has been inhabited by Native Americans since before European settlers arrived in what is now Montgomery County. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Fairfield were French and Indian traders who landed on the Mobile Bayou in 1724. They named their new settlement after a fair they had seen in Quebec City, Canada. The town began as a Methodist church and schoolhouse which opened on October 25, 1814. It was also known as "The Townsite." A post office was established at Fairfield on November 3, 1819; it remained in operation until it was discontinued on May 15, 1876. During the Civil War (1861-1865), Fairfield served as an Union garrison for Confederate General Jubal Early's forces during their campaign against Union General Robert E. Lee's army at Chancellorsville Campaign (July 1863). On July 12th of that year, Confederate Lieutenant Colonel John Hance led a detachment of cavalry into town to raid local businesses and kidnap two women from nearby Decatur Township although no one was harmed beyond fright or inconvenience. On September 10th 1861, President Abraham Lincoln issued an executive order ordering all military commanders to put all civilians within five miles of military installations out of danger during wartime due to fear they would help the Confederacy escape punishment if captured or surrendered; this order called for General Early's force to enter Fairfield without opposition on September 11th while troops from other towns surrounding the area did not participate because they knew their civilian populations would not bea threat should they become involved with the war effort. After entering Fairfield without opposition by its military defenders, Early's forces burned down much of the community including both churches and schools before departing for home early that evening under orders from General Robert E. Lee who considered any civilians remaining active aiding and abetting Federal forces against his own army inappropriate punishment under laws then extant governing combat between armies combatants engaged in open hostilities regardless of nationality or citizenship thereof). In 1865 much like most other communities along I-5 south central Alabama during those years many farms were burned down by Union troops seeking revenge for previous raids into areas near Mobile where plantations had been destroyed many times over slaveowners having lost large sums of money as well being social outcasts unable or unwilling to fight back becoming known as guerrilla fighters/terrorists often engaging Mexican American soldiers numbering several thousand men living among them throughout southern Texas raiding homes and crops farming villages trying to provoke retaliation killing scores women children childrenmen resulting in epidemics among these groups making Borderland region one of deadliest places on Earth especially knowing today that there are no serious long term effects associated with such activities thanks largely to modern day efforts such as environmental restoration projects started some time ago conducted by federal agencies working closely with historically knowledgeable individuals responsible for conducting searches insideEditor’s Note: As stated earlier there are still victims alive today who have not yet received adequate compensation considering life expectancy today at approximately 80 years according however many have reached old age without ever receiving justice despite multiple applications made both through individual lawsuits filed heretofore plus numerous investigations conducted thru various state & federal agencies including our bureau recently)
