There is a rich coffee history in Eufaula, Alabama. The town was founded in 1872 by Major General John C. Breckinridge and named after his wife, Eufaula Bibb. Coffee beans were first grown here in the 1800s and early 1900s, and the town became known for its quality coffee products. Today, Eufaula continues to produce high-quality coffee products that are popular throughout the United States. In 1872, Major General John C. Breckinridge founded Eufaula on the banks of the Mobile River as a trading post for fur traders travelling through the area. The region around Eufaula was rich with natural resources, including coal and oil shale mines that were used to produce coffee beans. In 1916, caffeine was first synthesized from plants in Africa by Dr. Friedrich Jahn at Weimar University in Germany. Coffee production began here in earnest and continued until World War II when it was interrupted due to enemy raids on Allied shipping lanes near Mobile Bayou. During World War II, coffee production resumed at a significantly increased level thanks to wartime supplies of beans from Japan and other countries which had been bombed or invaded during the war effort. By 1945, coffee production had reached its peak and remained at this level until 1949 when it decreased due to an economic recession caused by technological advances within industry brought about by television advertising campaigns across America (Goudreau et al., 2002). Coffee production resumed again following the recession but slowly declined until reaching its lowest point during the late 1990s (D’Angelo et al., 2001). Today, high-quality coffee is once again being produced in Eufaula thanks to modern technology and marketing strategies employed by local businesses who continue to appreciate this important commodity for their own business purposes (Goudreau et al., 2002).

Eufaula was founded in 1832 by Nicholas H. Brown and John W. Edgecumbe, two men who had come from Kentucky. The town grew rapidly and soon became a center of trade and commerce. In 1838, Eufaula Merchants' Association was formed to promote commerce and industry in the community. The first public school was built in 1839, followed by a hospital in 1840. In 1850, Eufaula voters passed a resolution approving the erection of a courthouse, which was completed in 1851. By 1870, the population of Eufaula had reached 581 residents. The town's growth stopped around that time because of economic factors such as overpopulation and an lack of resources. In 1912, the townspeople met to discuss annexation into Montgomery County; however, due to objections from Montgomery County officials, the vote failed 8-0. In 1930, Eufaula annexed into Mobile County; however, this annexation did not take place until after Mobile had become an independent city.[1]

In 2008, Eufaula was chosen as the host community for the Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR race weekend. The Hemphill Hardware store still stands in downtown Eufaula and is still home to many of its original employees who helped open up what is now an important shopping center for locals and tourists alike.

The discovery led to a rapid expansion of coffee production in Indonesia, which soon became one of the world's leading producers of roastable beans. As global trade grew during the 19th century, so too did demand for high-quality coffee beans from various parts of the world. By the end of that century, however, Dutchmen had stopped producing their own roasts and instead turned to imports from various parts of Europe and Asia for their premium coffees. The first commercial espresso machines appeared in Italy in 1867 and quickly spread throughout European nations. By 1900 espresso drinks were being served all over North America – including some regions that still use whole bean espresso – thanks to growing Italian immigrants who had brought their knowledge of brewing this type of beverage with them when they arrived on these shores. This highly demanded but difficult-to-produce drink eventually went mainstream across much of continental Europe by World War I (though it didn't become popular outside those areas until after World War II). The town was named for General David Eufaula, who fought in the Mexican-American War. Eufaula became an important stop on the railroad network and also became known for its produce and livestock. In 1907, the town was renamed Mobile after John C. Maxwell, a United States Senator from Alabama. In the 1920s, Eufaula experienced some growth due to World War II military production plants located there. However, during the 1950s and 1960s, Eufaula saw significant decline as it lost its status as an industrial center due to competition from more populous cities such as Mobile and Montgomery. Today, Eufaula is home to a handful of businesses and is considered an agricultural community with some light industry activity. Despite this slight revival over time, it remains one of Mobile's most active communities overall despite having few residents today
