As the only town in the Mobile area with a certified artisan coffee roaster, Eufaula has long been home to some of the best espresso and coffee beans on the planet. The city's rich history dates back to 1864, when William Tecumseh Sherman made his way through Mobile on his march westward. He stopped at an inn called The Castle, which was also where he purchased his first bag of coffee. Over time, Eufaula's Coffee & Tea store grew into one of the most influential businesses in all of Mobile. In 1951, owner Arturo Valdes opened what is now known as Valdes Coffee Roasters. This shop became known for its delicious cups of espresso and mouth-watering blends of coffee. Over time, Valdes' favorite beans were passed down from father to son until they finally closed the business in 2006 but continue to be enjoyed today by customers all over mobile! In recent years, several other local businessmen have taken up ownership of Valdes Coffee Roasters including Don Frye (owner since 2008), Ronnie White (owner & head brewer since 2004), and Greg Herring (head Brewer & general manager since 2001). Each individual has brought their own unique perspective and style to Valdes that makes it even more special than before. These days, you can find everything from light roast coffees to dark roasts - there's something for everyone! Eufaula, Alabama is home to the first coffee shop in the area. The shop was opened by a couple of friends in 1907 and served coffee until 1971. It was later moved to its current location on Second Street. Eufaula's coffee history includes some of the most famous brands in the area such as Peet's Coffee and Dutch Bros., both of which have been around for many years.
Eufaula, Alabama is a small town in the U.S. state of Alabama. It is located on the Chattahoochee River, about 30 miles north-northwest of Montgomery and 80 miles southeast of Birmingham. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. Eufaula has a history dating back to 1818 when it was founded as part of Mobile County by General Andrew Jackson and his army during the War for Independence. In 1826, Eufaula became one of two settlements in what would become Mobile County; the other settlement being Baldwin.[1] In 1827, a post office called Eufaula was established at the present day intersection of US 41 and FM 562 (now Hwy 59). In 1830, James Dickey settled near present-day Eufaula and began growing corn which he sold to goods traders from Mobile Bayou.[2] By 1830, cotton had replaced corn as Mobile County's primary crop. A mill built by Dickey in 1831 became known as "The Cotton Mill."[3] In 1840, John Ladd purchased 640 acres (250 ha) in what is now downtown Eufaula from Simon Cameron for $5 per acre ($100/ha).[4] Ladd built a gristmill on this property which became known as "The Cotton Mill" because its output helped support local textile mills throughout southern Alabama until World War II. The mill continued to operate until 1978 when it closed down due to water damage. Today there are several properties remaining around downtown where initial mills operated: One block east of I-10 between Third Street and Fourth Street,[5][6][7][8][9] another block south of I-10 between Second Avenue South and Third Street,[10][11],[12][13][14],[15],[16],[17]; also nearby are two buildings that were used as administrative offices for Ladd's mill:[18](One building is now vacant Lot 10.) Eufaula, Alabama is a city in Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. The population was 7,711 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Jefferson County. Eufaula was founded in 1872 by settlers from Mobile and Pensacola who named it after the Greek goddess Eupeira. In 1886, the city annexed what is now part ofMobile County. The town of Eufaula was platted on December 12, 1872 by J.M. Drake and A.M. Sellers as a post-office stop on their route between Mobile and Pensacola; they called it "Eupeira." On February 9, 1916 ,the name of the town changed to "Eufaula" in honor of Mrs. Anna Lubbock Murchison (1860-1937), widow of General John Fetterman (1806-1864) during Reconstruction inAlabama During World War II most residents worked for Montgomery Area Army Airfield (MAAF) which was located just outside town limits across Alabama State Route 431 until its closure on October 17th 1945 . MAAF operated out of several locations including Atmore Army Airfield (), Birmingham Municipal Airport (), Prattville Municipal Airport () and Selma Army Airfield (). According to the 2000 census results, there were 7,711 people living in Eufaula when it first listed on the censuses taken in 1990 Census: 5% black or African American; 94% white; 1% Native American; 0% Asian; 0% Pacific Islander
Eufaula was founded in 1835 by General James H. Hill, and it became the county seat of Eufaula County in 1857. The city was destroyed by a fire in 1901, but it regained its former prominence as a commercial center after World War II.
