The history of the Eufaula Army National Guard began in 1892 when Confederate General Forrest moved his army into Mobile, Alabama. The Mobile Militia was not a functioning military force, and so Forrest called on members of the Alabama Militia to help him form an armed guard for Mobile. In 1894, the militia formed the First Infantry Brigade and two years later became part of Lieutenant Colonel John Pemberton's 1st Cavalry Division in the Regular Army. In 1903, Pemberton organized the Eighth Infantry Brigade and from 1908 to 1912 served as its colonel. In 1907, Col. Franklin A. Dyer organized the Fourth Infantry Brigade which became part of Maj. Gen. George Hines' Third Corps in 1915. In 1924, after World War I ended, Congress passed legislation providing for a permanent state military forces within Alabama based on population size and location rather than by county or regiment/ brigade ranking order as had been done previously. On May 8th, 1925 MajGen (later LtGen) James Minton was appointed Commandant of the newly created 4th Infantry Division at Montgomery under Adm(r) John Jellicoe's command responsible for all American troops stationed inAlabama except those serving with warring European nations such as Germany or Italy who were under British command respectively.(1) On July 1st 1926 Capt(n) Julius Wohlgemuth relieved Capt(n) Frank Goode commanding 5th infantry regiment (5th ALA). From 1927 until 1933 Col(n) Homer Cummings commanded 2nd battalion (2nd ALA), from 1934 until 1938 Col(n) Harry Fenton led 3rd battalion (3rd ALA), from 1939 until 1945 Col(n) Alger Hiss led 1st battalion (1st ALA). After World War II there were no active murals associated with any unit during that time period simply paintings that depicted current units or local landmarks such as Fort Riley courthouse where recruiting posters now hang today

The Eufaula, Alabama Volunteers were a volunteer regiment of the United States Army during World War I. The regiment was formed in 1917 from citizens of Eufaula, Alabama who had volunteered to serve in the war. The regiment fought in the 1918 Battle of Belleau Wood and the 1919 Battle of Argonne. After the war, the regiment disbanded in 1921.
Eufaula, Alabama is a town in Clarke County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,542 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Mobile–Tensaw–Hollywood area. Eufaula is home to the Eufaula Arts and Cultural District. The first Europeans to visit what is now Eufaula were French traders in 1702 who named it "Aigua Blanca". In 1819, General Andrew Jackson called it "the most beautiful place I have ever seen" and renamed it Fort Jackson after his military victory over Native Americans at that location in 1817. The fort served as a trading post for several months before being destroyed by Seminole Indians on October 14, 1819. A new post office was established at Fort Jackson on November 3, 1820 and remained in operation until July 12, 1826 when it was discontinued due to lack of mail traffic. As early as 1824 Indian traders had been located near present-day Eufaula; there are references to an open air market here from February 5th of that year! In 1840 the town's only store was built and started selling goods by John Gadsden; within two years he had closed up shop due to economic recession caused by the American Civil War which began September 11th of that year. By 1865 all but one post office had closed down due to loss of patronage during Reconstruction Era days when many African Americans were relocated from southern states into cotton plantations north of Mobile Bayou where they worked primarily on sharecropping farms with little access to education or jobs outside their homes until land prices increased rapidly following World War II opportunities for black farmers became available nearby after emancipation in 1863 which created an influx of people seeking escape from poverty similar experiences experienced by white collar workers escaping Jim Crow South during latter half of 19th century industrial age
