Dothan, Alabama is a city in Marshall County, Alabama, United States. The population was 2,827 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Marshall County. Dothan was founded on December 14, 1881 by John L. Moore and named for General David Dothan who fought in the American Civil War and represented Alabama in the Confederate Congress. Dothan was incorporated as a city on February 17, 1907. The first mayor of Dothan was J.B. "Butch" Floyd and the first councilmember were Mabel Pugh and Fannie Wade-Jones. On May 3, 1923 Fannie Wade-Jones was elected mayor after being first runner up to J.B Floyd that year. In 1957 Mayor James A White won re-election with over 50% of the vote against challenger Wanda Weatherford Johnson
