The department had no funds to buy dogs so they came up with another solution- They took donations from local citizens! These donations would go towards purchasing a new dog for the police department. After a few winters of giving away dogs, the department was able to purchase their first dog- an alpaca named Lucky! Lucky was given to Police Chief Joe Hawkins and Patrolman John Kirby who both became very close friends with him after being apart of his early deployments as a police officer in this city! Lucky was not the only dog that Law enforcement Officer Joe Hawkins donated to the town- He also donated a cat named Sparky! Sparky was given to Patrolman Jens Madsen who became very fond of him and adopted him into his family shortly after! In later years when additional patrolmen joined the force, Madsen would give one or more pets away each year as part of his Christmas present tradition! It is safe to say that Law Enforcement Officer Joe Hawkins’s love for animals led him to become very involved with giving policemen gifts over time. This tradition continues today as Police Chief Hawkins often makes special requests for certain types or breeds of dogs or cats when awarding gifts at retirement ceremonies or other events honoring our officers!

Dothan is a town in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,878 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Tuscaloosa County. Dothan is located on U.S. Route 431, which runs north-south through the center of the town and leads to Birmingham, Alabama to the south and Mobile Bay to the east. The first settler in what would become Dothan was James A. Beale who came from Georgia in 1827 and homesteaded on land that he purchased from John Holmes in 1829. In 1830, Wm Hays established a post office at Beale's place called "Hawk's Nest." The name of this post office changed to "Dothan" in 1835 when it was moved from Hawk's Nest to its present location at Main Street and US 431 (later Business US 431). In 1836, Elijah Hicks founded Hicksville near what is now Armani Boulevard/Alabama State Route 24 while living on his plantation near present day Enterprise Boulevard/Alabama State Route 248. Hicksville became an important agricultural community with plantations producing cotton and other crops until around 1930 when tract houses were replaced by larger homes due to changes in farming practices brought about by tractor ride highways development across Alabama during World War II. In 1910 Census for Tuscaloosa County only 1 white person lived in Dothan; Rev J B Phillips who officiated at First Baptist Church there until his death 10 years later aged 83 years old!

Dothan, Alabama is the largest city in southern Alabama. The population was over 100,000 in 1990 and has continued to grow since then. Dothan is the seat of government for the city of Dothan and was founded on December 1, 1871 by a group of settlers from Mobile County. The city was named after General Andrew Pickens, who helped lead the Union army during the American Civil War. In 1924, Dothan became one of six cities in Alabama to become a state capital. The first school in Dothan was built on what is now Washington Street. In 1876, Alexander Stephens High School opened its doors and served as the only high school in town until 1954 when Allatoona High School opened its doors. The first courthouse in town was erected at 4th Street and Constitution Avenue in 1881. A new courthouse building was constructed at 1300 4th Street between 1921 and 1923 which remains standing today as part of the Historic District of downtown Dothan. In 1904, Coca-Cola began sales from a small plant located near Railroad Square northeast of downtown Dothan. By 1929, Coca-Cola had moved its corporate headquarters to Atlanta, Georgia due to antitrust concerns with other Pepsi-Cola companies operating interstate sales operations without first violating local antitrust laws.. However Coca-Cola resumed production here beginning on July 15th 1947 under new management led by Dr Pepper Manley Bottling Company Vice President Harry Waddy Dolph Hansen started bottling Pabst Blue Ribbon here starting May 12th 1948
Dothan, Alabama was founded in 1819 by General John C. Breckinridge and was named for Captain Dothan of the Confederate States Army. The town grew rapidly during the 19th century as a result of its fertile soil and strategic location on the eastern edge of Alabama. In 1881, Dothan became an incorporated city after becoming a part of Mobile County. The city's growth continued into the 20th century with the addition of new districts including North and South Hills neighborhoods.
