Cullman, Alabama is a small town located in the U.S. state of Alabama. Cullman was founded in 1872 by John Cullman and his wife Sarah Jane. The Cullmans were early settlers in what is now Cullman County. Cullman was originally named Forneyville after Forney, Texas, where their family settled in 1853. The name change came about because Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway officials started calling the area "Forney" because it seemed to be well located for railroad tracks; this name also appeared on maps as early as 1867! In 1873, John Prentice bought the land comprising today's Cullman County from James Fenton and laid out its boundaries. By 1880, the population of the small town had increased to around 100 residents! By 1900, when cotton farming began to decline inAlabama, most of the residents left for other parts ofthe country or returned to live within their original homes. During World War II, many businesses closed due to wartime rationing; however, a few people such as Mrs. Jody Hogue kept shoplifting food from local stores! Today's population is estimated at just over 50 residents and most of them are involved in agriculture or related industries like petrochemicals or timber production!
