Center Point is a small town in Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,682 at the 2010 census. Center Point is part of the Mobile–Tuscaloosa Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1871 by three men who came from Michigan to purchase land in what is today Center Point. They named their community "Center." In 1878, they moved to what is now downtown and opened a store there. In 1906, the J.C. Penney company bought land east of CenterPoint for a new factory that would make clothing for the American market. The company built a large building and called it "Penney Plaza." The townspeople began to call their new center point "Centerpoint" because of this name change. In 1929, the Penney company merged with Montgomery Ward Company and became known as Ward-Penney Corporation. That year, they also built another large building on the east side of CenterPoint which they called "Ward Tower." This tower still stands today and is used as office space by both Ward-Penney Corporation and its successor companies, including Sears Holdings Corporation (which purchased Ward-Penney Corporation in 2013) until it closed down in 2018. In 1937, CenterPoint had its first post office which served the community until 1954 when mail service was discontinued due to government austerity measures following World War II. However, mail continued to be delivered through Frontier Mail Service until 1978; during this time much of central Alabama receivedmail from Centre Point via rail transport only . In 1984 after being recommended by then President Ronald Reagan as an example for rural communities nationwide following successful efforts made by then Mayor George Witherspoon's administration to revamp Main Street in Centrepoint into something more modernized Crowne Plaza hotel/restaurant complex - center point residents were able to finally enjoy all that downtown has to offer without having to leave their homes - Main Street reverted back back to its original name once again: Centrepoint Avenue

Center Point is a small town in Etowah County, Alabama, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2000 census. Center Point is part of the Birmingham metropolitan area. The town began as a trading post on the Etowah River by Walton and Hardeman families in 1825. In 1836, James P. Hargrave founded Centerpoint Station as an outpost on what is now known as Ulysses S. Grant Boulevard in order to trade with Native Americans and Mexican traders who passed through the area during the Texas Revolution. In 1859, a new courthouse was built for Centrepoint Station and soon became one of the most important localities in south Alabama due to its strategic location on both I-10 and US-toilet road (now SR-1) which connected Birmingham to Mobile and Atlanta. During World War II, Centerpoint became home to thousands of soldiers who served in various battlefronts around the world including Normandy, Italy, France and Europe; some remain here today as cultural tourist attractions such as the American Legion Hall Museum which has exhibits about American military history from pre-Revolutionary days to present day; also located here are seven barracks used by Mobile Infantry Regiment 10th Infantry Brigade Combat Team during World War II; these barracks have been preserved as part of Mobiline Museum District #2 since 1956. Aboriginal Peoples: The Cherokee Nation inhabits much of southern Etowah County where Center Point is located; they were among several tribes that negotiated peace treaties with white settlers following frontier conflicts with other tribes beginning in 1795. The Cherokee Nation's capital was at Choctawtown on Choctawhatchee Lake which lay just east of present day Centerpoint on state Route 176 near modern-day Greenville Road/US 1 exit No.(4). After Removal: Creek Indians forced out by whites after European settlement had begun removed most members of their clans living east side Choctawtown Reservation (location now known as Huntsville), however some chose to live alongome riverbanks until relocated eventually settling near CentrePoint Ferry Landing upstream from present day creek confluence within limits set by treaty council between Creek Nation & US Indian Department circa 1830’+. 1st Chickasaw detachment under Captains John Ross & James White arrived at Chuchitown Settlement site early summer 1800’+, seasonally hunted deer there before travelling wagons upriver past Cahaba Hills into interior Alabama…Most Cherokees remaining downstream / outside limits Marchessault Settlement proximate Opelousas River mouth picnics/fairs were held annually late spring or early summer when corn crops would matured & buffalo robes made ready for hunting Seasonally related trade goods captured wagons filled with clothing etc., items exchanged included firearms & tools Horses were slaughtered for meat many times per week so herds could survive During Pontiac Rebellion all citizens over age 6 must attend religious service 3rd Chickasaw detachment under Captain John Ross arrived at Chuchitown Settlement site early fall 1800’+ driven deer back past Cahaba Hills into interior Alabama then followed wagons upriver past Opelousas River mouth Picnics/fairs were held annually late spring or early summer when corn crops would matured & buffalo robes made ready for hunting Seasonally related trade goods captured wagons filled with clothing etc., items exchanged included firearms & tools Horses were slaughtered for meat many times per week so herds could survive
In the early 1800s, Center Point was a small farming community in east Alabama. In 1821, John Wesley Hardin donated land to the town for a church and school. The first building was built in 1825 and it was called the Methodist Episcopal Church. It burned down in 1868, but a new building was built and named the First Baptist Church. The town had two schools until 1865 when they were merged into one school called Central School. In 1880, Center Point became part of Etowah County and it became an incorporated municipality in 1907. In 1951, it lost its status as an incorporated municipality and it reverted to being an unincorporated community again.
