Center Point is a city in Bulloch County, Alabama, United States. The population was 927 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Mobile–Troy–Ardmore Metropolitan Statistical Area. Center Point is located on the Gulf of Mexico about 20 miles (32 km) south-southwest of Mobile and 40 miles (64 km) east-northeast of Montgomery. The first settler in Center Point was James Hance who arrived there in 1811. A post office called Centrepoint was established in 1824, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1865. In 1839, developers organized the town around a large salt lick located near what is now downtown Center Point. By 1850, over 100 residents had moved to CenterPoint from all over southwestern Alabama for its fertile soil and good water supply. In 1872, centerpoint became a city when it incorporated as a result of an act of the General Assembly under which cities were granted by state law "the same power to make all contracts necessary for carrying into effect their charter." In 1901, centerpoint annexed both neighboring towns of Troy and Ardmore making it one municipality with a total population now over 1,000 people. The city has since undergone rapid growth with annexations from other municipalities creating larger areas within its boundaries including two adjacent suburbs: Midtown CentrePoint and Lakeshore Park East which each have populations exceeding 1,500 people as well as Stadium Village just outside the limits of downtown Crossing City limits while still being considered part of CenterPoint proper
