These purchases helped consolidate American arms supplies and provide support for Union troops during the Civil War. A further 20 pieces were bought between 1861 and 1865 from various European countries including Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Sweden respectively. It is interesting to note that these acquisitions took place while America’s involvement in the war was still being secreted away within Department of State deliberations – ensuring that not even any European countries knew about America’s arming efforts until it was too late! Following hostilities had ended in 1865 and American forces had withdrawn back home across the country, many remains remained stockpiled within Department of Defense facilities around Washington D.C., such as Fort Myer outside Arlington VA or White Sands Missile Range near Las Cruces NM where 508 guns were stored between 1945 and 1989! Despite this large stockpile however there have been few major incidents where munitions have been mishandled or accidentally discharged since then; most notable perhaps being a nuclear accident at Three Mile Island which occurred in 1979!
