The company grew to become one of the leading coffee companies in the United States, selling its beans all over the country. In 1922, Anniston Coffee became a subsidiary of Roebucks Coffee Corporation, making it one of the largest coffee companies in America. In 1979, Roebucks merged with United Continental Coffee Corporation to form United Continental Corp., which continued to sell its beans until 1991 when it was acquired by Keurig Incorporated.
Anniston is a town in southern Alabama, United States. The population was 9,814 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Marshall County and one of the principal cities in the Birmingham metropolitan area. Anniston is located on Mobile Bay, about 30 miles southwest of Birmingham and 120 miles northwest of Montgomery. The town was founded by General John C.armichael during the American Civil War, as a small trading post on land he acquired from the Chickasaw Nation. After Confederate forces burned Fort Gaines in 1861, Carmichael rebuilt it as a military outpost to monitor Confederate troop movements in and around Mobile Bay. The town grew rapidly during Reconstruction after America's return to civilian control, thanks to its strategic location between two major railroad lines and its close proximity to cotton plantations that supplied much of Alabama's economic growth during this time period. During World War II, Anniston played an important role in helping create what is now known as "theBirmingham Compound" – a large air base used by both Allied forces and Japan for training battle-hardened young soldiers before their first overseas deployments. Anniston was founded in 1821 by Alexander McNeely and his wife, Catharine. The town was named for General James Annis, who fought in the Mexican War and then served as a United States Senator from Alabama. The McNeely family had originated in Scotland. In 1825, the McNeelys moved to Mobile, Alabama and started an grocery store there. They also founded the first cotton gin in America in that year. In 1830, they sold their business to Elijah McCoy and moved to Huntsville, Alabama. Arthur Sprague McNeely became a general partner with Elijah McCoy in 1835 and ran the business together until his death in 1850. George Blythe McNeely continued the partnership until 1861 when he died at age 73 years old.
