Alexander City is a small town in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, United States. The population was 2,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Birmingham–Hoover Metropolitan Statistical Area. Gourmet Coffee has been located in Alexander City since 1978. The first gourmet coffee shop in Alexander City was called "The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf". The name came from two businesses that were next door to each other on West Main Street: The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf (founded by Harry Smith) and The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf Cafeteria (founded by Clarence "Crazy Legs" Bowers). In 1978, Crazy Legs opened a second store called "The Gourmet Café" which served food like beef liver mousse, black bean chili, rosemary yogurt toast with honeycomb toppings, chocolate cake with whipped cream and pecans, etc. In 2004-2005, Gourmet Coffee moved out of its original location on West Main Street into a brand new facility on 11th Avenue North. This property had been used as an auto dealership until it became available for lease in 2003 when Gourmet decided to move into the building. The facility features three levels including a lobby/entertainment area with 12 TVs displaying live programming such as football games or concerts; a kitchen where customers can purchase drinks and prepare their own dishes; as well as several classrooms for training purposes such as culinary arts or baking skills.

Alexander City is a small town located in central Alabama, about 26 miles (41 kilometers) east of Birmingham. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. The namesake of Alexander City is General Andrew Jackson, who was born here on December 12, 1767. The first settlers in Alexander City were farmers and their families who arrived in 1819 from eastern Tennessee. They built homes around a communal church which they christened "Church Hill." In 1831, James A. Haley founded the Haley National Bank in what is now downtown Alexander City. Haley was instrumental in pushing through Congress the Homestead Act which gave new settlers free land to build homes on. In 1907, the community became an unincorporated community when its post office closed because it no longer served a community of that name. It reopened as an incorporated town on February 14, 1907 under the name of Alexander City with a population of 627 residents. On July 1, 1957, Alexander City's incorporation status was changed to city by act of the Alabama State Legislature after approval by voters at an election held that year. Today's city has experienced rapid growth since becoming incorporated; it has seen a pop-up restaurant chain called MoonPiez enter the market followed by several other businesses including two casinos and three grocery stores within five years of incorporation while also experiencing significant construction projects such as the opening of two large industrial parks adjacent to its downtown area and redevelopment of several vacant properties into mixed-use neighborhoods complete with streetscape improvement plans and commercial development totaling $225 million over 10 years

It became a city in 1907. The town was first developed as a small plantation town on the banks of Mobile Bay. In 1819, General Alexander Stephens moved his family to what is now Alexander City from Montgomery, Alabama. The general and his wife were the first white people to live there. The Stephenses helped found the town's first church in 1820 and they also built the first schoolhouse in 1830. In 1907, Alexander City became a city under the terms of an act of Congress approved by President James K. Polk. At that time, it had a population of about 2,500 people and was one of five cities withinAlabama which had been designated as "cities of primary importance." As part of its designation as a city, Alexander City received various grants from federal agencies including money for street paving and public Works Administration projects such as schools and hospitals. In 1915, during World War I, Alexander City played an important role in helping to supplies troops stationed near Tuttle Lake along Mobile Bay during World War I; at that time Tuttle Lake was known as Tank Pond because so much oil was being stored there wartime-related shortages caused by America's entry into war against Great Britain
