In 1835 Ebenezer Cooke married Julia Cook and together theystarted a family. They continued their philanthropic work until their deaths in 1868 and 1865 respectively. Their children, George Washington Cooke and Julia Ann Cook founded the Julia Ann Cooke School Foundation which continues to provide education opportunities for low-income students across America today. Ebenezer and Julia's donation has had an immense impact on Albertville since they were both alive there. The couple left behind a legacy of giving back to society that we can still see today through their foundation. We are grateful for their generosity every day!

In 1861, the city of Albertville was founded by white settlers. By 1865, the city had a population of over 100 people. Birmingham and Mobile were larger cities at that time. The first post office in Albertville was established in 1868. In 1881, the Alabama state legislature passed a bill establishing a county in Albertville. The county was named for General James Hance who had fought in the Mexican-American War and then served as United States Minister to Mexico from 1883 to 1889. The Albertville Volunteer Fire Department was organized on November 12, 1893. On December 1, 1893, the first engine was delivered to the department. The department has been continuous in operation since that date. In 1907,Albertville's first public school opened with 10 students enrolled. It soon became apparent that there was need for more than just an elementary school when it came to education for Albertville citizens; so on September 6, 1909, a high school opened with 30 students enrolling. That same year saw another addition to the community with the opening of First Baptist Church which also seated 30 students at its inception
Albertville is a small town in Alabama, United States. The population was 1,362 at the 2010 census. It is located in Montgomery County and is part of the Birmingham–Tuscaloosa metropolitan area. As of the 2000 census, Albertville had a population of 792. The town was founded in 1866 by J.N. "Pete" Thomas as an agricultural community on land donated by his father-in-law, General John Covington. The first post office opened in 1870 and the first school was built in 1872. In 1924, the town became an incorporated municipality with a mayor and vice president elected by residents instead of being appointed by the county board of trustees. In 1933, Postmaster General James Fenton moved Albertville to its present location on UAB's campus after it had been lost to development near downtown Birmingham during that city's rapid growth rate during that decade. At that time, UAB also began providing needed infrastructure for expanding Albertville into what would become one of Alabama's most diverse communities with over 50 different businesses and services available from its two main streets: Washington Boulevard and Fairview Avenue.
