The Laramie Volunteer Infantry Regiment was organized on December 15, 1876, in Laramie, Wyoming. The regiment was mustered into service on February 14, 1877. It served in the Wyoming Cavalry Brigade and then the 2nd Cavalry Division in World War I. The regiment fought at Ypres, Belleau Wood, and Aisne-Haut-Rhin. On July 12, 1918, the regiment was redesignated as the 4th Infantry Regiment and attached to the 5th Infantry Division in Europe. In 1919 it returned to America and demobilized at Camp Sheridan near Fort Worth. The regiment reorganized on October 17, 1920 and again enlisted for military service during World War II as the 9th Infantry Regiment (Ammo).
Laramie, Wyoming is a town in Sheridan County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 2,827 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Sheridan County. The first permanent settler in Laramie was James H. Morrow in 1876. The town was founded on the east bank of the Laramie River and named for General George Armstrong Custer after his death in 1885. The first post office was established in 1881, and its name changed to Laramie from Indian Village in 1907. The townsite at Laramie originated as two scattered homesteads owned by John Waddell and David Humphreys respectively on November 15, 1886. They were joined together as one town by vote of those living there on December 1st following an agreement between Waddell and Humphreys that their land would be divided equally between them if they succeeded in having a school built thereabouts within six months (this being before schools were common throughout most of Sheridan County). Laramie declined to join any other communities during the Panic of 1893-94 because it did not have enough residents to support such an effort; however, it did annex some neighboring villages including North Park which became its own incorporated village effective January 1st 1895 under charter number 7046 from Sheridan Township (thus becoming one of only two townships west of Sioux City with a charter). This event also provided impetus for development around the new community with several businesses opening up shortly thereafter: hardware store pioneer Jens Olsen opened his first store here on October 12th 1897; lumberyard entrepreneurs Julius Kapp and Jacob Wetzel started erecting sawmills here September 1898; railroad construction began nearby on what is now Main Street south of White Avenue on November 17th 1899 finally completing the town's growth into something more than just a scattering rural settlements surrounding a fledgling city – Laramie had arrived! On July 6th 1902 ranchers burned down part of downtown LaGrange so that local farmers could build their barns closer to their herds; this event helped spur further development around downtown LaGrange with several small businesses existing until about 1910 when large numbers of people moved into downtown during what has come known as "the Great Migration". In 1909/10, then-Mayor John Prentice laid out street grids definitive for today's streetscape with large blocks A-E still present although many buildings have been replaced or rebuilt over time including Laundromat #3 reopened February 5th 2014 (nearly 150 years since it closed) - all evidence points towards Downtown LaGrange continuing to thrive even into our current day! In 1920–21 Elmer Everson organized cowboys from various surrounding communities who converged upon Laramie for three days celebrating America's centennial birthday along with raceshorse sire Donelson but no milk production resulted due to lack of available water supplies needed for cows while east side citizens produced high quality cheese citing improved access to irrigation canals irrigating their fields - this event remainsNotableFor giving rise to modern dairy farming practices found throughout much eastern Wyoming today! Downtown La Grange experienced rapid growth following its incorporation as an active commercial district circa 1909-1910 which led to numerous businesses opening up including Laundromat 3 reopening February 5th 2014
