The Washougal Naval ReserveCommand has a long and proud history of deploying gifts to the residents of Washougal. The Naval Reserve Command is responsible for providing naval reservists with the training, equipment and support they need to serve our country. This year's deployment included a gift from the Navy, which was sent to washougal residents as part of a larger program that includes sending gifts across the United States. This year’s deployment was unique in many ways. For one, it was the first time that navy ships had been deployed in Washington state since World War II. Additionally, it was also the first time that navy ships had been stationed in town on permanent duty since 1948 when USS Olympia (CVA-5) arrived at anchor in downtown Washougal. This visit by USS Olympia marked an important milestone for Washougal because it represented an increase in naval activity within the local community and helped build trust between military and civilian leaders. It also helped ensure that Washington state remained an important source of support for our nation’s armed forces. In fact, according to statistics provided by Tacoma Police Department, more than half of all reports made about incidents involving civilians related to military members or units have occurred within 25 miles of Tacoma during 2017 alone! The LHD-10 is a major Naval Base on the Columbia River and was originally built as an attack submersible during World War II. It was reactivated by the Navy in 1971 and has served as a flagship for various naval missions throughout the years. The Grigg is a LCS that was commissioned by Navy Adm. Jonathan W. Greenway in 2012 and has been serving as part of Operation Neptune's Spear since its deployment.
Washougal is a small town in King County, Washington, United States. It is the seat of King County and Census-designated place (CDP) for the town of Washougal. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. The name "Washougal" likely comes from Washoey Creek which flows through the town. The first people to live in what is now Washougal were Native Americans who hunted and gathered resources near present-day washougal Falls. They named their land Wacoma (meaning "place where water falls"). In 1853, General George Custer's party was travelling through Washington when they came across a Indian village on the Spokane River and thought it looked like an attractive place to live. When General Pike saw them living there he decided to move them back to their reservation east of Tacoma because they were not following his military campaign against Mexico. In 1886, Captain John Wesley Powell discovered gold near what is nowwashougal Falls while exploring for irrigation water in what is now King County. He named this new discovery Gold Hill after his hometown of Hill Top, Pennsylvania where gold had been found before. Goldmining began in earnest around Washougall in 1898 started by Jephson Brothers with some help from American Vice President Alonzo Mourning and others as part of a larger effort to build an empire out of Yukon Territory by Canada under Prime Minister Sir John Aird and Alexander Macdonald's idea that Northern Canada could be self-reliant without British influence or subsidy. By 1912 over 1 million acres had been mined with $5 million paid out in cash rewards alone; however production ceased due to strikes by workers over pay and working conditions among other things until World War II when it recommenced again along with other industries such as aluminum smelting during World War II known as “the war years” because so much aluminum was produced here

Washougal is a town in Washington County, Oregon, United States. The population was 781 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bend, Oregon Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Washougal likely comes from the Chinook word "wáshi" meaning "place where water flows." The first white person to visit Washougal was David McKay in 1847 and he named it after his friend John Washburn who had also been exploring the area. In 1863, George Vancouver landed at what is now Washougal and named it HMS Discovery on land that he had acquired from Juan de Fuca. He established a ferry service between Cape Disappointment and Puget Sound and naming both landforms Sequim Strait and Kitsap Peninsula after his shipmates on Discovery. Today, Sequim Strait forms part of Thurston County while Kitsap Peninsula serves as the border of King County, Washington. In 1871, Jens Jensen became the first person to homestead in what is now Washougal when he settled on an island in sequoia bark country about northeast of present-day town center. By 1907 when county boundaries were redefined, Jensen's farmstead was located just northwest of present-day town center across from Wacoal Creek (now known as Maple Creek). In 1916 developer Harry Prentice built a small sawmill on Wacoal Creek for his own personal use before selling it to local resident Archibald MacLeish two years later for $1 million dollars which helped fund development including expanding school district boundaries by 10 miles eastward to include present day Washougal along with other adjacent communities such as Nisqually Riverdale and Salmon Bay before becoming a city in 1961 with its current nameakes
