After landing hereabouts, Cabrillo explored Puget Sound and Strait Of Juan de Fuca before returning to Spain with news of a large landmass to the east called California or Terra delFuego by Captain Christopher Newport who sailed into Puget Sound on July 4th 1607 as part of Discovery Expedition led by James Cook during his first voyage around Asia Seas.). In 1792 Captain George Vancouver sailed past Puget Sound bound for Japan but never reached his destination because an iceberg blocked his way past Walpole Harbor. On July 11th 1792 Lieutenant William Bainbridge anchored about three miles (5 km) northeast of today's downtown Tacoma opposite shoreline at what is now Cammell Laird Naval Shipyard where he chartered HMS Terror for himself and four companions including Mr Charles Wilkes who would later become First American Ambassador to Russia On January 6th 1821 Russian sailor Dmitry Kondratyev set out from Botkin Bay northwest of Point Defiance following tracks left by Aleksei Chekhov as part ofvoyage accompanying Admiral Lazarev during Russo-Japanese War against Japan commanded by Rear Admiral Akinshin In 1824 Russian whaling vessel Novaya Zvezda arrived in Puget Sound seeking walrus meat wanted for Leningrad market That same year HMS Beagle set out from Point Defiance under command of Commander Beagle RN with Scientific Officer David Livingstone exploring northwest Pacific Ocean floor search for South Atlantic right whale rookeries Nestor and Eudyptes chrysolophus ) becoming only human powered scientific expedition ever authorized by Admiralty). By mid-1825 they had located 23 rookeries Beard’s Seal group (Eudyptes chrysolophus), Gillett’s Group (Orcinus orca), Wallis Ross Group (Eudyptes chrysolophus), Howe’s Group (Thresher seal) & Brown’s Group (Halichoeratops antirrhopus) along 75°W longitude near Thurston Atoll northcentral Polynesia .) This important discovery led to establishmentof nearby military installation at Fort Victoria which served as Royal Navy base until 1907 When Naval Air Station Kodiak was established adjacent to present day airport it became primary USAAF airfield ferrying pilots/bombardiers across Bering Sea

The Territorial Legislature also designated Tacoma as a port to provide access to shipbuilding and fishing activities on Puget Sound and its adjacent waters during times of economic boom and bust cycles throughout Puget Sound's history; however, these efforts were never realized due to competition from Seattle’s growing trade industry starting in the early 19th century In 1907, Tacoma became an incorporated city with boundaries that extended northward beyond thoseArticles 9bis (the Port Act) still applied by incorporation such that only white men could own land within limits set thereunder including Water Street east thereof (north side). In 1912 black citizens of Tacoma formed their first municipal government with two resident councilors elected at large from ward lines created pursuant thereto with no compensation or service other than attending meetings.
