Spokane Valley, Washington is located in the Western Interior of the United States. It is bordered by Chelan County to the east, Lincoln County to the west, and Pend Oreille County to the northwest. The population was 3,834 at the 2010 census. Spokane Valley is part of the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue metropolitan area. The city was named for Spokan chief Black Robe and his wife Sacagawea. The valley was first explored by fur traders in 1855 and discovered gold nuggets near present-day North Bend. A rush for gold began in 1858 and led to a town being founded on what is now North Hill Road in 1861. In 1865, Spokane City was founded as a result of an agreement between Ulysses S Grant and Ignatius Kapp from Tacoma. Goldmining continued until 1929 when all operations were discontinued due to competition from other mines throughout central Washington. In 1932, Spokane Valley became one of four towns in King County that were consolidated into one county under the name of King County on January 1st episode of "The Twilight Zone". As a result of this merger, most businesses within King County closed down or moved out while Spokane Valley stayed open thanks to its strong ties with local government and businesses. On July 17th 2014, King County announced it would sell off all but 5% of its land including that surrounding Spokane Valley which would then be leased back to the county for 99 years with no possibility of renewing it without unanimous vote from all landowners who held title thereto including those who had originally leased it back during World War II when much military activity took place within their boundaries; thus making it one long leasehold estate which would have ended up becoming public domain once expiration occurred without any new development taking place within it thereby opening up much more potential parcels/land outside city limits for future development should such an event occur; however no such event has yet taken place as developers have been unwilling or unable to come up with any viable plans nor proposals addressing how they could take over control either through purchase/lease or donation (in light of recent changes made by both local elected officials as well as state legislators seemingly designed specifically towards limiting such types of redevelopment) Today many descendants still live in rural areas around Spokane Valley where agriculture remains an important industry providing access to local markets while also contributing significantly to community support systems like volunteerISM programs that provide unpaid work opportunities for low income families

The community was named after General George Custer and his army during the Dakota Wars and it became an agricultural center following its establishment as a railroad junction in 1887. In 1916, Spokane Valley incorporated as a city and it grew rapidly until it reached its peak with a population of 23,000 in 1940. However, rapid growth led to social problems such as crime and poverty that continue to this day. Today, Spokane Valley remains an agricultural center with a significant retail sector but also contains several thousand homes built since 2000 for people who work or live near the city center.
