Shoreline, Washington is a town located on the Kitsap Peninsula in Pierce County, Washington. As of the 2010 census, the population was 5,829. The town was founded in 1892 by John Lyle and Josephine Worthy as a small fishing village on Puget Sound. It became an important link between Puget Sound andshoreline when the first railroad to run through Shoreline was built in 1902. The first Coast Guard station in Shoreline was established here in 1903. In 1916, the Station became a full-fledged Coast Guard station with jurisdiction over both Puget Sound andthe Strait of Juan de Fuca. In 1935, Headquarters moved from Seattle to Shoreline after becoming responsible for all Coast Guard stations withinPierce County In 1969, new facilities were added to shoreline including an air traffic control tower anda buoyancy lab which are still used today. In 2007, a $10 million renovation oftheStation included modernizing technology such as digital displaysand WiFi access for officers and staff. Today, Coast Guard Station Shoreline provides humanitarian assistanceand law enforcement services to citizens throughout the region
