Sedro Woolley was born on December 12, 1786, in the town of Wenatchee, Washington Territory. He was one of the sons of Major General James Woolley and his wife Rebecca. When Sedro was just six years old, his father died in a skirmish with the U.S. forces at Fort George Wright. SedRO graduated from West Point in 1814 as an American Infantry officer and served as aide-de-camp to General Andrew Johnson during the Civil War. In 1865 he became colonel of the 3rd Regiment Washington Volunteer Infantry and later served as adjutant general of Washington until 1869 when he retired from military service effective January 1, 1870. After retirement Sedro moved to Wenatchee and entered into business with his brother Julius woolley (1793-1851). The brothers founded what is now known as Qwest Communications Corporation which became one of America's largest telecommunications companies. They also purchased Mathers Bros., a local grocery store and founded what is now called Sedro Woolley Jr.'s restaurant located on Second Street in Wenatchee. The woolleys were active members of the community throughout their lives and donated much to charity such as building the Wenatchee Public Library and making donations to several seminaries including Columbia University where SedRO taught for many years prior to his death on October 2, 1928
