In 1775, Washington Coffee House opened its doors to the public in downtown Seattle and continues to serve as an iconic landmark today. This restaurant started out as a small bakery back in 1951 and became one of the first places people would go for breakfast after working downtown. The town of Seatac, Washington is a small community located in Thurston County, Washington. The population was 514 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle metropolitan area. Seatac began as a post office on July 15, 1892, and became a city on December 4, 1907. On January 14, 1959, Seatac merged with neighboring Lynden to form the new city of Lynden-Seatac. On February 1st of that year, both towns were dissolved and their residents moved to the new city of Seattle. The first settler in Seatac was George Dicken who came overland from Canada in 1851. He erected a log cabin near what is now Main Street and built his home there until his death in 1865. His wife Lucy Atherton also lived there for many years until she moved to Everett in 1922. They had three children: John (1868-1952), Alice (1871-1948) and George Jr.(1873-1945). Homer Burnett established himself at Burnett's Store on the corner of First Avenue South and Second Street in 1875 after coming across land which he thought would be valuable for farming purposes only. Burnett later moved his business to where it still stands today; next door to J & B's Hardware store which was first opened by John Atchison in 1889." In 1900 Burnett married Anna Belle Greenough who arrived from Australia about this time too." In 1909 Burnett sold his store lot to Solomon Northrop who built Northrop House on itometime around 1916 or 1917."Northrop died young at age 48 while operating Northrop House" In 1923 David Nordheimer bought Burnett's Storelot "and began operations as Nordheimer's Boots store". Seatac is a small town located in King County, Washington. The population was 5,508 at the 2000 census. The name is derived from the Skagit Indian word seattacus meaning "small stream." The town was first settled in 1889 by Norwegian immigrants and their families. The town's current location was chosen for its proximity to Puget Sound and its ability to provide access to freight trains that transported goods between Seattle and Asia. Seatac has seen many changes throughout its history. In 1892, the town became the site of a landrace war between Native Americans and settlers over ownership of a piece of land near what is now the intersection of Main Street and I-5. In 1916, Seatac became one of the few towns in King County to be incorporated when it was created from portions of neighboring villages. In 1949, Seatac voted to become an independent city when it secession from King County effective that year. In 1990, since passage of Initiative 890 (the so-called "Cities Unlimited" law), seatacs have made strides in becoming more involved with their local government through bond issues and referenda on various topics such as zoning changes, highway expansion projects, library funding and annexation intoSeattle proper.
The Seatac Airport is a single-runway, general aviation airport located in the city of Seattle, within King County, Washington. It served as the primary facility for Boeing and Lockheed Martin planes until it was closed by the FAA in 1990. The airport received its current name from then-Mayor Norm Rice and City Councilmember Gary Locke after they both attended a dedication ceremony for the new $145 million terminal building on February 15, 1990.
