The station served as a dispatch center and later became an armory. On October 4, 1907, the Coast Guard Station Sammamish was dedicated and operated by the United States Coast Guard. It remains one of the most active coast guard stations in Seattle-Tacoma area today. The Coast Guard has been providing safety and security along our coastline since 1916 when they were organized as a part of the Department of Commerce and Labor. In that year, Congress passed an act authorizing the President to establish a coast guard force to protect maritime interests within certain limits of America’s territorial waters extending into Canada. This grant also authorized purchase of land at SEQuadra Point on Kitsap Peninsula for use as a coastguard station during World War I. In 1922 Congress again authorized creation of a coast guard force with headquarters located at Suquamish Bay on Puget Sound with jurisdiction over all areas south of latitude 45 degrees north latitude including Sammamish Bay where the first shore battery still stands today! In 1941 Purser Condon became Commandant (now First Lieutenant) of USCG Pacific Area Headquarters here in Sammamish after serving many years as commanding officer (1938-41)of San Francisco’s Navy Yard which lay adjacent to Suquamish Bay at Point Defiancee on Kitsap Peninsula . After four years commandorship he was transferred here from San Francisco to serve concurrently as Commandant/First Lieutenant USCG Naval District Northwest PAC Northwest Aleutian Islands until his retirement at age 70 on July 1, 1946; Commander Ninth Naval District Hawaii from 1951 until his retirement effective January 1, 1957; Commander Seventh Naval District Alaska from 1959 until his retirement effective December 31st., 1960; Commander Ninth Naval District Hawaiian Islands from 1961 until his death six months later on April Fool’s Day 1962 while duty ashore at Pearl Harbor; then First LieutenantsUSCG Pacific Area Headquarters hereuntil his death effective October 1st., 1966.' -From: "History Of The United States Coast Guard" by David Loughney ISBN 0-8014-0093-4

Sammamish is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 2,010 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle-Tacoma metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit Sammamish were fur traders from Siberia in 1810. The first person to live there was Chief Moses Richardson in 1851. In 1870, the town became a part of King County and its name changed to Sammamish after it became an incorporated municipality.
