In 1814, Commodore James Ketchum presented Congress with a gift from Rear Admiral David Dixon Cushing, Commander-in-Chief of The Pacific Squadron: four sloops called “Hancock” and two small frigates, HMS Pqueen (Frigate) and HMS Rattlesnake (Frigate). The ships were donated because they were deemed too expensive to maintain in service at Newport News Shipbuilding after only one year of use. They remained in commission until 1846 when they were decommissioned and sold to various fleets around the world. Beginning in 1907, Naval Air Station Pensacola gave out free air tickets to members of the military upon presentation of a note from Rear Admiral John Jellicoe signed by President Theodore Roosevelt. This program continued until 1945 when it was discontinued due to budget cuts within the Navy brass. Renton, Washington is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 56,826 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of King County and the second-largest city in Washington after Seattle. The area that now makes up Renton was first settled by the native Klamath people in the late 18th century. In 1881, Renton became part of Seattle when it was incorporated as a town. From 1930 until 2003, Renton was also the capital of Washington state. The history of Renton goes back to its original settlers—the Klamath people— who were among the first Europeans to reach what is now King County during what is known as the Gold Rush period of American history. In 1881, an act been passed by Congress designated Renton as a town in order to encourage settlement within its boundaries and build infrastructure for growth; this coincided with an increase in railroad traffic through King County which made towns necessary for passenger service. In 1933, following passage of legislation establishing statewide capital cities throughout Washington State (including Seattle), Mayor Charles Fritch ordered City Manager Harry Goldstein to relocate from Seattle's Central District to create a more centralized government organization in downtown Renton; this move effectively ended streetcar operations along First Avenue south of Superior Street and replaced them with buses running on Queen Anne Boulevard east of Maple Street where they stopped at intersections controlled by Goldstein's office. With bus operations commenced and streetcar tracks no longer usable due to construction projects around town – including new streetcars being built just north of Town Hall – things changed quickly for downtown businesses and residents who relied on Stations No 1 & 2 for transportation during those early days without cars or bike trails! This paper will not explore how these advancements impacted business/life patterns within Downtown but rather focus on more recent past events that have shaped modern day aspects related thereto such as development around First Ave., redevelopment near Town Hall Square and much more! Today’s skyline can be seen from Interstate 5 about 20 miles away across Elliott Bay while downtown consists primarily of high-rise buildings dating back to World War II including Boeing’s Building 7 which still stands today (albeit surrounded by newer buildings) as well as many smaller shops/cafés lining Queen Anne Boulevard between Sutter Street and Main Street which connect downtown with Elliot Bay beaches both retail shopping destinations east Buydean Way Southshore Drive beyond Greenwood Village annexed into annexation Heights Park annexed into annexation Northwest Side annexed into annexation Bellevue although there are some small residential neighborhoods located there too
