As a result, many of the company'sassets were sold off in 1954 and 1955. In 1957, National Guardian Corporation was spun off into its own independent company called Pan American Airways Corporation (PACA). PANAMA quickly became one of America's leading airlines; it acquired several other companies over time including West Airlines and Air CanadaFlight International Ltd.. In 1971 PACA merged with US Airways Group Incorporated (UAL) - one of America's most successful airline companies - creating what is now Delta Air Lines Incorporated.
