Since the early 1800s, Marines have been deployed to various places around the world. One of the most recent deployments has been in Port Angeles, Washington where they have provided support for local law enforcement and military operations. The Marines have a long history of giving back to their community and this deployment is no exception. In 1954, Pacific Northwest Marine Command was established and it soon became apparent that marine support would play an important role in local law enforcement. In 1958, Pacific Northwest Marine Command stationed two detachments at Edmonds Air Force Base in Seattle to provide cover for aircraft carrier trials off the coast of Oregon. This event helped solidify marines as a necessary part of local law enforcement when larger events such as these took place. The present day marines in Port Angeles are responsible for providing security for many different types of events throughout the city including parades and holidays. They also work with law enforcement on a regular basis which allows them to get close with their counterparts from other services. This deployment is not only a reminder of marines’ historical contributions but it is also an opportunity to show appreciation for all that they do for our community. It is through their service that we can keep our country safe and protect those who live here.

From 1861-1865, marines served in the Mexican War as part of Commodore John W. Woolridge's Divisional Army Corps. In 1865, marines fought in the Battle of Appomattox Court House as part of General Robert E. Lee's Confederate army.
Port Angeles is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 10,677 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle–Tacoma metropolitan area. The name "Port Angeles" was given to the town by Captain John Port of Vancouver in 1851 during his explorations of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The first permanent settler in Port Angeles was David Rankin in 1853. In 1861, Commodore William Perry sent an expedition from Puget Sound to explore and survey the Strait of Juan de Fuca and its potential for shipping between Asia and North America. After exploring for two weeks, Perry's force discovered what he thought were several small islands in the strait but which later proved to be a large body of water called "Foul Bay." He named this location Fort Victoria after himself and his vice-admiral, Rear Admiral Sir George Vancouver. Theodore Roosevelt visited Fort Victoria on October 9, 1898 while on his way southward from Olympia to join Ulysses S Grant at Manila Bay on February 12 that year as part of World War I efforts against Spanish forces occupying Mexico City. As part of ceremonies surrounding Roosevelt's arrival in Tacoma, local residents erected a memorial plaque dedicated to him at Fort Victoria today

After the war, Port Angeles continued to grow rapidly, and by 1970 it had reached its current size. Today, Port Angeles is one of Washington's most vibrant cities and a major economic center for the state.
