The United States Air Force Deployed Gift History program is a unique and valuable tradition that has been established in Pasco, Washington since the early days of the USAF. The program allows members of the US military to contribute their time and talents to support our nation’s defense by providing unique gifts to family, friends, and others who have supported us throughout our history. The first deployment was made in 1947 when the USAF came into being. Since then, we have sent more than 350 officers and men to serve in various capacities within the USAF. Our squadron stationed at Seymour Johnson AFB provides opportunities for service members to provide gift-giving opportunities for those who may not be able to otherwise afford them. We are grateful for everything our military personnel do for us – from deploying with gear and supplies necessary for Operation Iraqi Freedom II through each deployment since Desert Storm – it is their dedication that makes our country so safe. We also appreciate all of the donations received from individuals throughout the community. Your generosity has allowed us to make a difference in lives around here. Thank you!

The first European settler in what is now Pasco was David Swearingen who arrived from Stonington, Connecticut on March 14th, 1792 along with his family consisting of his wife Deborah (born December 8th), their three children John (born October 12th), Hannah (born September 25th) and Samuel (born May 15th). The United States Air Force has a long history of deploying gift baskets to commemorate special occasions. One such tradition began in the early days of the USAF when officers and enlisted personnel would send small personal gifts to friends and family back home. These gifts, often consisting of flowers or cigarettes, were given as an expression of appreciation and were usually accompanied by a note asking the recipient to forward the gift on to someone special. One such basket was sent in 1966 to congratulate America's first African American fighter pilot, Colonel James "Buddy" Moore, upon his appointment as commander-in-chief of all air forces at Maxwell AFB. The gift included a 211 gallon gasoline container filled with cigars, cigarettes, champagne, and other affordances for celebratory functions. In 1978, after President Jimmy Carter had appointed Mrs. Betty Carter chairwoman of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), she ordered her husband to send her a basket containing items related to space exploration including probes and satellites. This particular basket also contained glasses and horseshoes for presentation during Carter's State Dinner at the White House that year. In 1991, after 9/11/2001 caused widespread damage throughout New York City due to terrorist attacks originating from Afghanistan and Pakistan, Navy SEALs deployed Gift Baskets full of Hummus & Tofu samples from their USS Tripoli Naval Supply Depot in Guantanamo Bay Cuba as part of their Operation Neptune's Spear mission commemoration project for military survivors & families impacted by 9/11/.
