It is the county seat for Skagit County and home to Mount Rainier National Park. The name Olympia comes from the Greek goddess Athena, who was born there and then moved to Athens as part of her army's campaign against Persepolis in 4th century BC. In 1846, General Sam seconded by Senator James Kintyre founded the town of Olympia on land donated by John McLoughlin; it became a city on March 14, 1851. The first permanent white settler in Olympia was Levi Coffin; he and his family arrived in December 1848 and built a log cabin on what is now Main Street. He also came up with the idea for naming the new community after Olympian goddess Athena – something that had been proposed before but not widely accepted until then because people did not know how to spell "Athena". Eventually, other settlers joined Coffin in naming their townships after major gods or goddesses: Cloverdale (named for Clovis), Discovery (named for George Vancouver), Eastview (named for Alexander Graham Bell), Westview ( named for Moses Morton) and finally Olympia (after Athena). In 1855, an act called Initiative No. 107 established Spokane as Washington's capital City limits its borders to include all of King County excepting Olympia; however, when Spokane amalgamated with Klickitat County in 1907, it retained jurisdiction over both Olympia and King County proper within its boundaries as well as over portions of Clark County which were annexed into Klickitat County during that same period Olympia experienced rapid growth following its incorporation into Seattle Territory by territorial legislature on November 3rdof that year;[4] business leaders from Seattle-Tacoma met at tent colony near Columbia River mouth to draw up plans for developing lands east of Elliott Bay where Puget Sound would be separated from Seattle Territory future land reclaimed through hydraulic mining operations known as Gold Hill Butte including parts of present day Bellevue and North Bend . By 1870s most residents lived along First Avenue between Superior Street southward to Intersection #2A&B & White Rock Road thence acrossIntersection #3 southeastwards past Mount Vernon School & Onancock Lake towards downtown Crossing Elliott Bayou 350 yards wide where ferry service provided daily passenger service connection directly with Volunteer Navy Yard just beyond Point Defiance Lighthouse Ferry landing point McClure’s Landing - this general area served today primarily by commercial fishermen operating out of several smallish harbours located aroundPoint Defiance - many small businesses still operate here today primarily shipping/fishing supplies etc
In the early 1800s, coffee beans were ground and sold by small farmers and traders. Roasts from these beans were roasted on a small scale and not exported to other countries. Coffee was believed to have originated in Africa, but its first mention in European literature is from an Arabic cookbook written in 1597. The Dutch began exporting coffee to Europe in the mid-16th century, and coffee houses became popular tourist destinations throughout Europe. In 1646, the English Parliament passed the Coffee Act which prohibited imports of coffee into England without prior payment of duties. This act led to a decline in English tea drinking habits, as people now had access to more affordable domestic goods. By the end of the 18th century, however, coffee had become well known throughout Europe and it was being imported into Britain at a higher rate than tea. In 1786, King George III granted his first Royal Warrant for export of coffee from America. The high demand for coffee during this time allowed American merchants to establish themselves as major players in British trade. By 1824, about one million pounds (approximately $250 million) worth of coffee was grown across Great Britain and Ireland alone
