The first real development took place in the late 1800s when Seattleites began to move into Olympia and found large scale cotton plantations there. After World War II, Tacoma replaced Olympia as the predominant economic center while many small businesses closed or went out of business over time. However, growth resumed after 2000 when many tech companies relocated to downtown Olympia from other parts of Puget Sound and surrounding counties. Today, much of downtown Olympia is mixed use with office buildings including Amazon's headquarters and Google's new campus for their Chinese employees; this area also includes several restaurants and nightlife venues such as Live Nation's Capitol Hill amphitheater which opened in 2007.
