The history of the navy in Newcastle, Washington dates back to 1861. The first Naval station in the area was established at Fort Pickens by Rear Admiral John C. Fremont. Commodore George Vancouver set up a Marine detachment at Nisqually in 1862 and recommended that the territorial government establish a naval station here as well. On February 8, 1862, Tacoma territorial legislature passed an act authorizing the Territorial Government to purchase land for $1,000 for a naval station and lighthouse. The land was donated by Benjamin Fitch and it became known as "Fitch Point". Commodore Vancouver started construction on the fortification on October 1st of that year and named it after himself - Admiralty House. In 1865, Commodore George Vancouver recommended that Washington put into effect a state militia system similar to that in Colorado which had been implemented two years earlier. This new idea caught the attention of Lieutenant Governor Isaac Stevens who appointed Commodore David Dixon to study it further. On December 12th of 1865, Dixon submitted his report recommending establishment of an entire fleet of warships within ten years - including eight battleships and twenty-four boats! In November 1867, Governor Stevens approved this recommendation and ordered Captain David Dixon to start construction on Admiralty House immediately! On January 15th, 1868, while Commodore Dixon was still working on Admiralty House, another group of maritime entrepreneurs from Puget Sound came ashore with their own plans for building a naval base hereabouts. They called themselves "The Northern Mariners" and they wanted Headquarters for their organization at Nisqually Point which would be their main portof call during the conduct of business between Seattle and Tacoma! It is interesting to note that these maritime entrepreneurs were not actually affiliated with any organized body or faction within society - they simply believed that there should be one center point where all activity could take place related to shipping lanes running through Puget Sound! Unfortunately for them however, no action was taken until after Captain Dixon's untimely death in 1887! In 1880 USS Constitution (1862) decommissioned at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard after serving throughout both Mexican American War (1846-48) & Second Seminole War (1849-51). Newcastle, Washington is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 953 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bellevue–Reston Area metropolitan area. Newcastle is named after Sir George Childs Newcastle who settled in what is now Newcastle in 1847. Newcastle first emerged as a small agricultural community on the site of present-day Nordstrom Park near what is now Interstate 5 and State Route 6 (now US 101). The original settlers were Norwegian immigrants who had come to Seattle before the American Civil War to work on whaling boats off Puget Sound. Some of these Norwegians returned home and started families in Newcastle. In 1892, an act was passed by the state of Washington authorizing creation of townships within King County. On May 10, 1893, South Range Township began to be organized from parts of Indianola Township and North Range Township with a population of about 100 people each. On May 16th，King County approved an application for incorporation from local businessmen Arthur Aiken and Julius Schieffer for the town of Newcastle which would have a total population over 500 people. The first meeting held to discuss incorporation took place at First Presbyterian Church on November 8th, 1893 with 222 voting against incorporation while 159 voted in favor subject to changes made by the county Board of Commissioners including increasing land values due to new developments around Nordstrom Park during that time period like The History Museum (now known as Space Needle) being built next door along I-5 and other growth downtown which increased traffic congestion on arterial streets causing problems for commissioners trying to keep things moving forward

Newcastle is located in the far northwestern corner of Washington County, in the Agricultural and Range region. The town was founded by George W. Madsen in 1859 as a small trading post on the site of present-day Newcastle. It became a community when madsen built a log cabin and store on the same lot as the current courthouse and schoolhouse. In 1867, Newcastle applied for incorporation as a town, but was not accepted because its population was too small. In 1870, however, Mayor J.H. Yeates recommended that Newcastle petition for incorporation as a city under the name of "City of Newcastle." On July 1, 1870, City of Newcastle petitioned for incorporation with a population of 100 residents; it was accepted and renamed Newcastle after mayor Yeates's suggestion. The first mayor was John Everson (1871-1872). The city had an estimated population of 400 residents by 1880; however, due to low economic activity and some civic unrest, it had only about 150 residents by 1893 when it merged with neighboring communities to become New Hope; this merger also resulted in the loss of all local government power to those townships. The population peaked in 1925 at over 120,000 and declined to about 60,000 by 1940. During World War II, Newcastle was one of the largest military communities in Western Washington. It served as a munitions production center and also hosted many American servicemen and their families during the war years.
