The Mukilteo National Guard was established on July 4, 1792 as the first military unit in what would become the United States of America.During its early years, the National Guard played an important role in defense of Washington Territory and served under both the U.S. President and Congress. By 1814, however, the National Guard had been reduced to a light infantry regiment and was disbanded. On January 14th, 1861, The Constitution of the United States was ratified and on that date The 1st Washington Infantry Regiment (Mukilteo)was born from merger of two previous units-the 2nd Washington Infantry Regiment (Everett)and 3rd Washington Infantry Regiment (Plandon). On February 15th these units were mustered into service at Everett by Colonel John Prentice with Companies A & B forming the nucleus of Company C which numbered ten men In total there were thirty six men- eighteen enlisted soldiers and twenty three officers including Major General David Broomfield who became Commanding Officer on May 24th 1861 when Colonel John Prentice resigned his commission to take up a larger post with Army Staff at Fortress Monroe. The 1st Washington Infantry Regiment served initially within District Of Columbia before being transferred to Military Division Of West Virginia on April 12th 1862 where they participated in operations around Fort Donelson and First Manassas Campaigns. They then returned to District Of Columbia for garrison duty until September 1863 when they took part in Butler’s Expedition against Johnston’s army near Petersburg Va., later moving northward along James River so as not to block Grant’s march through Virginia To Richmond

Mukilteo is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 9,317 at the 2010 census. Mukilteo is the largest town in King County by area. The first European settlers arrived in 1851 and founded a small hamlet near what is now Mukilteo on Puget Sound. In 1865, an act of Congress designated Mukilteo as the county seat of King County; however, the Town of Mukilteo was formed immediately to the south and would eventually annex most of what is today north side of downtown Mukilteo. Mukilteo became part of Seattle in 1912 when it seceded fromKing County. In 1916, there were clashes between white and Indian residents over land grants; this led to calls for racial segregation in Seattle which was not well received by many black people who felt that they had been taken advantage of during Seattle's early days as an American city. In 1949, Boeing opened its Everett plant east of Mukilteo which quickly created a need for housing in downtown Mukilteo and other areas around it; this caused race riots throughout Seattle that year after Boeing refused to give preference to African Americans for jobs at their new plant over white employees

In 1916, Mukilteo annexes part of Neighborhood Number 4 in Seattle to form a new municipality. In 1922, Mukilteo annexes part of Neighborhod Number 5 in Seattle to form another new municipality. On January 1, 1966, Mukilteo became an unincorporated community when it merged with nearby Tumwater into the newly created City of Tumwater. On December 15th 1978 it announced that it would be annexation for .5 ZIP Code which become effective on January 1st 1979 when all other municipalities within King County were annexed into the City of Tumwater
