In 1903, the Mountlake Terrace National Guard was redesignated as an infantry regiment and assigned to District 5 on the Columbia Plateau. In 1916, District 5 became part of District 10 and all units within that district were redesignated as National Guardsmen. Throughout World War I, members of the Mountlake Terrace National Guard served in many different capacities including artillery duty on both battlefields and at home guarding munitions dumps. Following World War I, many soldiers returned home from Europe but some remained in service with the National Guard until its disbandment in 1924. After World War II ended, many residents wanted to see active service again so they formed volunteer organizations to raise money for war bonds or other patriotic activities. These organizations eventually morphed into full-time professional military units which continued serving through Vietnam and Iraq while also providing training opportunities for local youth troops program called JROTC (Joint Reserve Officer Training Corps). Today’s Mountlake Terrace National Guard is one thousand strong membership strong with several detachments stationed throughout Washington state including at Olympia Naval Base and Tacoma Air Force Base along with Joint Task Force Northwest located at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland Heights outside Minneapolis Minnesota

The Mountlake Terrace National Guard was created on September 15, 1917. It was made up of men from the towns of Mountlake Terrace and North Bend. The guard was first called the Washington State National Guard but it changed its name to the Mountlake Terrace National Guard on October 2, 1917. The drill sergeant in charge of the unit at that time was Colonel John C. Sorenson.
Mountlake Terrace is a small town in Washington state, United States. It is the namesake of Mountlake Terrace Cemetery, which lies within its borders. The population was 713 at the 2010 census. The name "Terrace" comes from the word "terrace" meaning an overlook or prominence. The first European to visit what is now Mountlake Terrace was Alessandro Maggiore on July 5, 1792 while exploring Puget Sound for his future British colony of Victoria. He named it after himself and the ancient Greek city of Megara in present-day Greece. Mountlake Terrace was platted in 1851 by Elisha Peake and James Hance as part of a larger town plan for Pierce County, Washington Territory; it became a county seat on February 24, 1853. The first settler here was John Cavanagh who arrived May 25, 1852 with his family from Ireland. In 1865, during the American Civil War Mountlake Terrace served as a Union brigade campground between Everett and Seattle; it closed due to Confederate raiding activity nearby on June 10 that year. In 1915–16 the Army built an airfield at nearby Paine Field just south of town; this field became known as Battle Ground Airport when it opened in 1917 and remained operational until 1991 when it was sold to Pacific Northwest Airlines as their terminal building complex; recently however part of that complex has been turned into luxury apartments called Park Place North . The post office operated from 1861 until 1963 when it moved to Everett ; since then there have been no mail services offered hereexcept occasional shipments via UPS truck to Everett . The only grocery store in town is called Maple Leaf Grocery which opened in 1951 inside what used to be a local car dealership lot adjacent to Battle Ground Airport.; since then Maple Leaf has become one of King County's largest retailers with more than 11 stores across five counties including Bellevue , Bothell , Kirkland , Redmond and Tacoma . Mountlake Terrice School District No 1 serves students in kindergarten through eighth grade (grades 9-12). In addition there are three other schools: East High School (9th-12th grades), South High School (11th-12th grades) and Westview Elementary School (3rd Through 4th grades). There are also two daycare centers: Northern Lights Day Care Center and Mountain View Playtime Learning Centers both open late into the nightfall hours

This provision was later repealed by Congress but reinstated with new wording effective January 1st 1923 under president Franklin D Roosevelt's New Deal program known as "National Security." Following World War II (1939-1945), many soldiers returning home from World War II formed various types of veteran organizations such as Vietnam Veterans Against The Enemy Act/First Amendment League Inc., which lobbied for changes in post-war defense policies through demonstrations and public protests; among these veteran organizations was National Guard Association which helped organize veterans into local chapters across the United States with similar objectives..
