Mountlake Terrace is a census-designated place in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 7,814 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Bellevue–Everett–Seattle metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1883 by John Stevens and his family as a farmstead on the banks of Lake Washington. In 1907, it became part of Bellevue and annexed by Everett. Mountlake Terrace was formally incorporated in 1911. The name comes from the local mountaintop that can be seen from many parts of the community. The Mountlake Terrace School District covers all of Mountlake Terrace except for its eastern border which is within Everett's school district. Most residents are also members or supporters of The Church at Mt Pleasant, an evangelical congregation that has been headquartered in Mountlake Terrace since 1915. Banks & Booksmiths (now Borders) opened their first store on Mercer Street in 1925 and continues to operate today as one of Bellevue's most well known businesses

Mountlake Terrace is a small town in King County, Washington, located on the eastern edge of Seattle. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. Mountlake Terrace is one of the oldest towns in King County and has been continuously inhabited since 1851. The original Mountlake Terrace post office was established in 1851. In 1907, the name of Mountlake Terrace was changed to Arlington after General George Washington's home town in Virginia. In 1959, Arlington became part of Mountlake Terrace following its annexation by the town. The first settlers to what is now Mountlake Terrace were farmers who arrived around 1790. By 1800, there were 11 villages in King County and many people were engaged in farming and fishing as well as trading with other counties around Puget Sound. For several years after 1790, it seems that no permanent residents settled permanently on Mt lake ridge because during this time there was little natural land available for development and most people worked off of their farms or rented from others until they could purchase some property themselves or build a cabin or house on top of an existing farmstead. In 1851, when Tacoma was founded on the Elliott River about 30 miles northeast of Seattle by entrepreneur John Denny and his brother David Denny (the brothers also founded Moses Lake), Mt lake ridge appeared to be quite a desirable location for settlement because it had good soil quality with plenty of water resources nearby for agriculture and industry; furthermore, it had access to both routes between Puget Sound and Spokane via boats powered by fresh water springs near present-day Tukwila (then known as Olympia). It took several years before enough people decided to establish themselves hereabouts so that by 1857 there were six dwellings – three log cabins built by local white men named Alvord Browning (a wagon driver) August Heyer (a carpenter) Samuel Niles (an attorney), Ebenezer Higgins (a storekeeper), Edwin Hildebrandt (an engineer), Harney Storey (a lawyer) – all clustered together around a large spring which served as center point for trade among these initial settlers. Although many early residents did not own any land outright but rented from others or constructed homes outbuildings using timber they brought overland from their farms back east – primarily Douglas fir trees brought down overland from British Columbia – within two decades much more than just those mentioned above had purchased tracts either through purchase or donation from government officials leading up to Kmthorne Park platting Act 1850 which created Yakima Valley Reserve south of Tacoma including what is now Mountlake Terrace along its eastern border It wasn’t until 1861 when another group led by Captain George Vancouver set out from Bainbridge Island northwestward across Elliott Bay towards Puget Sound with plans soon aborted due to weather conditionsvorbis being too high for transportable boats; however upon arrival at Whatcom Pass about midway between today’s Everett and Bothell he foundering towards shoreline he called attention ashore to “Lagoon” lying tranquil & without impediment save shoals within her channel composed mostly Of small Kindled Fishes & snapper having occasioned us no injury whatsoever… After investigations into its possible nature & value we proceeded further upriver determined thereto [and] laid our mainmast & yards ashore opposite Her Mouth procured 3 fathoms Line Rope having been sent down thro’ proper channels thro’ which she lay while under our custody having declined all attentions hitherto offered her Finally got possession thereof without opposition giving us an idea how great must have been your astonishment when you saw us disembarking at Whatcom Head Our intentions being clear we never again ventured upon such bold measures unless under special circumstances The first brick building erected hereabouts may have been Built about 1865 Aged 36 yrs old Capt George Vancouver jr Mt lake terrace remained largely undeveloped until 1907 when local developer James Geddes bought 4 acres next door to his plantation/coterie operation called "Oak Cliff" where he began developing what would become Arlington into an agricultural community notable for its produce such as apples, grapes etc., chickens etc., horses etc., among other items sold through open-air stands located throughout much of today's Rosslyn neighborhood . In 1957 Arlington became part-time annexed member municipality renamed after General Washington's home town VIRGINIA
