Mill Creek is a tributary of the Columbia River located in King County, Washington. It flows through the communities of Kent and Seattle. Mill Creek drains an area of about 113 square miles. The creek has a surface flow of about 20,000 cubic feet per second and a volume of about 5 billion gallons. The creek's course is generally north-south but its extreme northeast direction makes it one of the few waterways in King County that meanders. The first European to explore and map the area around Mill Creek was James Cook in 1792 during his third voyage around the world aboard HMS Discovery. Cook named this creek "Mills" after John Mill, an agent for trade with Native Americans living along its banks at that time. In 1853, Eliza Case Richardson built a mill on the east side of Mill Creek near Kent. She used water power to create flour which she sold to local merchants and residents. In 1912, her mill was destroyed by fire; however, her flour still remains as part of Kent's history today. Mill Creek was designated as a National Wild & Scenic River by President Lyndon Johnson in 1976 (). Today it remains one of only two wild rivers remaining on the National Registerof Historic Places in King County ().

The creek has also been used for fishing and trout fishing. The community of Mill Creek was founded on December 6, 1883, when five families moved from Heceta to occupy land along Mill Creek. The mill was built by George Wickersham on the site of an old sawmill that had been destroyed by fire in 1868. The mill continued to be operated until it was sold to Samuel Custer in 1902. Custer donated the mill buildings and equipment to Mill Creek School District #1 in 1909. In 1922, Mill Creek School District #2 merged with schools located in Wenatchee and Olympia. In 1927, Congress passed the Rivers and Harbors Act which provided money for projects aimed at improving navigation on rivers throughout America. One such project was the construction of a dam across Mill Creek near Wenatchee so that more water could be impounded upstream for use by mills downstream. This project increased milling activity in nearbyModoc County so much that it led to what is now known as "the Modoc Boom." By World War II, however, this activity had declined due to competition from other industries in nearby Yakima County. On July 7, 1985, during floods caused by heavy rainsdownstream from Seattle several miles east ofMillCreek Dam gates flowed over their banks creating what is now known as "MillCreek Lake". This event created significant flooding along portions of northwest Washington's streams which continues to this day affecting areas includingMillCreek Dam itself as well as surrounding rural homes northeast ofWenatchee
