Mill Creek is a small stream located in the Yakima Valley, in the U.S. state of Washington. It flows through rural areas and into the Puget Sound near Seattle. Mill Creek drains an area of about 43 square miles and has a population of about 375 people as of 2010. The name "Mill Creek" comes from an early European settler's reference to it as "the mill stream". The first known mention of mills on the creek was in 1810 when Alexander Smith wrote: "There are several mills on this stream, all by means of water power." By 1870, there were 10 mills along the creek. The milling industry declined during the 19th century, but resumed after World War II because of good transportation links and cheap labor available in America. Today, only two mills still operate, one in Kent and one in Issaquah. The earliest evidence for human habitation on Mill Creek dates back to at least 12,000 years ago when Native Americans used its waters for fishing, hunting and gathering. A log cabin was built along Mill Creek by Potlatch Indians about 1800 BC. In 1865, John Wesley Powell visited Mill River and noted that it drained into Puget Sound rather than flowing out like other streams near his vehicle he photographed while exploring Mount Rainier National Park. On his trip downriver he also took photos which show how close Mill Creek flowed to Mount Rainier before turning sharply northeastward and entering Lake Stevens National Recreation Area beyondpresent-day Thurston County; today's Olympic Peninsula (see photo). In 1907 a dam was constructed across Mill Creek to provide irrigation water for farms nearIssaquah; this dam remains today as part of Issaquah Hills State Park (photo). By 1910 milling activity had ceased completely due to competition from farming activities downstream; however, some remnants remain around Kent where silted up creeks continue to flow out onto the river bed until they reach open water again just upstream from Issaquah High School (photo). A second dam was constructed across the creek by order of President Theodore Roosevelt shortly after World War I; this later became called Roosevelt Dam (photo). The original dams created heavy flooding which damaged many homes downstream and led to a campaign against them initiated by King County farmers who believed that too much development would take place upstream without their input or consent with resultant loss in property value for them downstream should such development proceed unchecked (photo). In 1928 Congress passed act allowing private individuals or groups to build reservoirs on public lands within certain limits so long as these structures did not impinge upon natural resources or disturb cultural relics located within those limits - effectively paving way for what is now known as Federal Water Development Administration ("FWA"). At first FWA built ditches directly beneath rivers where they emptied into estuaries but later began using locks at various points belowstream so that diverted floodwaters could be pumped back up aboveground Beckwith Canal leading eastward towards Seattle while leaving Wenatchee Bay open access (photo) giving us today's most expansive canal system north-south outside DC! Today there is no significant commercial activity taking place along Mill Creek except occasional agricultural production—primarily haymaking—since 1997 when a new bypass channel opened connecting Hope Mills Cove with nearby Butte Lake providing more easily accessible water supplies for farmsteads dating back 350 years! Although agriculture does play an important role in local economies it does not generate enough jobs over sustained periods (>5 years) for either businesses or householdsTo maintain any semblance of economic viability typical industrial operations must have periodic expansions/contractions generating ~50 full time equivalent positions encompassing design/construction/maintenance plus related support services necessary if large projects exceeding $100 million USD are required]

Mill Creek is a creek in the U.S. state of Washington. It flows from the Cascade Mountains to the Puget Sound. The mill site, now part of Mill Creek National Recreation Area, was located on the south side of Mill Creek between 1853 and 1865. The mill was built by David Mills and operated by his brother-in-law John Day until it burned down in 1865. The mill site was later acquired by General George Custer's cavalry regiment, which used it as barracks during World War I. The mill building and some surrounding land were eventually sold to the federal government and are now part of Park Lake State Park.
The Mill Creek Massacre took place on October 5, 1846, when a group of Native Americans attacked a party of white settlers. Eleven people were killed, and six more were wounded. The attack was the second such massacre in the area, and it remains one of the deadliest events in Washington history.
