Lynnwood is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 5,562 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bellevue-Everett-Snoqualmie Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lynnwood was founded in 1892 by farmers and lumbermen looking for a place to raise crops and build their furniture. The town grew quickly and today has a diverse economy with businesses in manufacturing, information technology, health care, education, and other sectors. The first settler in Lynnwood was George Stephenson who arrived on July 25, 1892. He built a cabin on the southeast corner of what is now East Valley Boulevard and South Main Street. In 1893, he donated land to the city of Bellevue for use as an open space park. In 1902, local banker Averill Harriman donated $5,000 to help finance the construction of Lynnwood High School which opened its doors that fall. The school would be one of many regional schools established throughout King County during this time period; others include Everett High School (1905), Bothell High School (1910), Edmonds High School (1913), and Issaquah High School (1920). During World War II, Lynnwood became an important munitions plant with its proximity to Boeing Airplane Manufacturing Company Headquarters located just east of town on Airport Way. The plant produced aircraft including Boeing 727s and 777s as well as B-24 Liberators bombers used by United States Strategic Air Forces during World War II . The plant closed in 1993 but left behind an impressive legacy including several dozen buildings still standing today including the Harriman Library which served as headquarters until it moved to Federal Way in 2006; both buildings are now part of Microsoft’s Redmond campus . Lynnwood also played host to several world championshipsranging from tennis events held at Maple Lodge Tennis Club through track meets at nearby Pioneer Park to wrestling contests at Northwest Wrestling Federation Hall Of Fame where wrestlers such as Jay Leno/, Hulk Hogan/, Andretheous Cain/, CM Punk/and Rock Bottom /attended over the years
