The Lynnwood National Guard was first organized on November 15, 1881. The unit was named the 5th Infantry Regiment and served as part of the Washington Volunteer Militia until 1898. The regiment then served as a duty unit in Alaska from 1899-1905 before being sent to Mexico in 1905 to participate in the Mexican Revolution. Upon its return to America, the regiment was redesignated as the 9th Infantry Regiment on October 1, 1907. The regiment remained active through World War I and World War II; however, it did not come into play during those wars. Lynnwood is a city located in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 20,958 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in King County, after Seattle.
