The Lynnwood Army Garrison was founded on December 12, 1792 as the first military installation in what is now Tacoma, Washington. In 1955, a new high school opened near Westlake Boulevard and Interstate 405 providing education for all ages within walking distance from home without having to leave Lynndon proper; this program continues today as Kittredge High School outside Tacoma only offers ninth through twelfth grades while also housing busing services for students attending nearby public schools throughout the morning hours so they can avoid making long walks home after school or before bedtime
