The most recent deployment of naval forces occurred on December 8th 2009 when USS Oriskany arrived at Baker Island in Puget Sound for a nine day stay during Operation Neptune’s Spear which aimed to support Operation Iraqi Freedom. This is only the third time that an American warships has visited Baker Island since it was acquired by the navy in 1959; prior deployments were for training purposes only! The oriskany is also notable for being one of two ships ever authorized by Congress to carry nuclear weapons (the other being USS George Washington). It’s no wonder that this ship has become such an iconic part of Navy history!

Longview is a town in Washington County, Oregon, United States. The population was 1,737 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Portland–Vancouver–Hillsboro, OR-WA Metropolitan Statistical Area. With a land area of only 2.5 square miles (6 km²), it ranks as one of the smallest towns in Oregon. According to the 2000 census, Longview had a population of 705 and has since decreased to 699 according to the 2010 Census.
