Longview is a census-designated place in Douglas County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle–Tacoma area. The town was named after Captain Benjamin Long, who had been exploring the region in 1855 when it was part of Oregon Territory. A post office called Longview was established in 1868, and remained in operation until 1959. The first store in town opened on May 10, 1870. The community grew rapidly due to its proximity to Tacoma and its railroad connections. By 1886, there were two churches and twelve residences. In 1923, a branch of the Seattle–Tacoma Railway crossed through Longview and brought many new residents into the community; by 1930, there were over 150 people living in Longview.
