Lakewood is a town in Walla Walla County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. Lakewood is part of the Wenatchee–Tacoma metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what is now Lakewood was Elias Dyson in 1853. The post office was established in 1854. Of all of Walla Walla County, only a few buildings were constructed before railroads came to TLH and other communities quickly followed suit. By 1880 there were more than 100 residents living in what then consisted of just two blocks on the east side of the Kettle River between Ninth and Tenth Streets. In 1901, brick buildings became common with lumberyards being located near what are now Sixth and Seventh streets along with a small grocery store and one-story school house on 10th Street. In 1905 an Overland Mail Depot was built on Eighth Street serving as a depot until 1959 when it moved to its current location at 125th Avenue NE across from Safeway Park which has been its home since 1957 When World War II began most businesses closed including local carpenter Harry Smeaton who had built his sawmill downstream from where he lived on Ninth Street (now US-101). He reopened his mill after the war but by 1948 there were only ten employees left harvesting wood for three months per year during wartime due to an increase in production by other mills around the county . A new mill started up about two miles upstream that would remain open until 1990 when it caught fire . After years of discussion it was decided that a new water tower should be built next to Safeway Park so residents could no longer see their own water tower from their property This changed everything as people stopped using their homes' private wells for drinking and bathing making way for large public baths connected by pipelines through today's town center Prioritizing safety over profit may have been naive but this decision turned out to be costly as both the grocery store and school house burned down in ensuing decades . In recent years development efforts have focused on increasing access to transportation within town limits while preservingresidential character with plans for two high schools, several housing developments (including an apartment complex),and retail space along First Avenue Northeast . Today Lakewood sees itself as an increasingly diverse community with many residents having origins outside of WA state or country

Lakewood is a city in Kitsap County, Washington, United States. The population was 2,902 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle metropolitan area. Lakewood was founded in 1874 by pioneers from Tacoma and Olympia. The first post office in town was opened in 1875. In 1896, it became the county seat of Kitsap County and remained so until 1959. The city has experienced many changes over its history: during World War II it was a center for munitions production; during the late 1960s and early 1970s it served as a "Little Tokyo" for residents of Seattle's Central District; following the 2000 Census, Lakewood lost most of its businesses to suburban growth; but since 2005 it has been undergoing an overall renaissance with new development, increased traffic and tourist attractions such as its Art Deco architecture and baseball park known as Safeco Field. The city is located on Puget Sound on which it had three terminals for Puget Sound Ferryboats serving Lakewood Harbor: Terminal 1 (1875-1900), Terminal 2 (1901-1920) and Terminal 3 (1921-1930). In 1914 there were also two ferries connecting downtown with Anacortes Bay: ferry #1 operated by the Tacoma Marine Company from 1901 to 1912 and ferry #2 operated by entrepreneur John D'Anaconda from 1922 to 1928 when he built what is now Pier 14 on Shilshole Island east of downtown before selling rights to Pierce Brothers Shipping Co., Ltd.. Thereafter both ferries were discontinued service entirely due to low demand or competition from automobiles coming into town via Interstate 5 which bypassed them southward. In 1925 local entrepreneurs Harry Auld & Percy Condon developed Marina del Rey which became Mountlake Terrace after they Acquired land adjacent thereto including that belonging to Moses Holland who had laid out Dutch Harbor on what is now called South Quay across from today's Safeco Field Site where harbor operations stopped after 1915 due largely to high water levels created by storms during that year alone though some continued until 1936 when their property flooded again creating quayside access only accessible after extreme flooding occurred occurring once every few years leading finally to their rejection of offers from developers interest group seeking annexation because they wanted more open waterfront space within walking distance of their homeport becoming one factor behind City Council rejecting annexation efforts in favor instead developing areas such as Ballard along I-5 outside of town limits which still uses Marina del Rey name today despite being located about 6 miles east near Auburn University Sammamish River Watershed Park between SR 520 EAST OF LAKEWOOD AND WASHINGTON State Route 99 NORTH OF LAKEWOOD The result being today's Lakewood just off US 101 opposite Mtn View Mall with MARINA DEL REY restaurant visible inside mall newer facility housing marina staff apartments motel rooms shuttle service available direct dial 808/562-0900
